Valley of Baca
Not For Sale
Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools.
Baca - a dry valley in the way to Jerusalem, here put for all places of like nature. Make a well - They dig divers little pits or wells in it for their relief. The rain - God recompenses their diligence with his blessing, sending rain wherewith they may be filled. (Wesley)
As believers we come to the place many times where we see something and we experience it and it causes fear of tears…in other words we cry out of our own selfishness or our own fear, for it is selfish of us not to trust God completely no matter the circumstance. As well our own fear comes because the moment we lean on self, (Proverbs 3:5, 6). We remove ourselves from under His blood covering and therefore suffer the consequences of such an action. We are our own enemies.
If we find that real life in some cases is paycheck to paycheck and not always money coming in hand over fist and we get nervous, but we are children of God – then we certainly should not be disturbed or bothered by such. God knows all our needs and therefore will lead us through the “valley of the shadow of death” (Psalm 23). As you walk through Baca allow the tears you shed to be joyous and allow them to be a cleansing flow that comes from your inner being, one of praise and one of joy for what God has done.
If you find that you are complaining too much about things and because you are in dislike of yourself you point out the faults in others or at least what you dislike about them edify them instead of tearing them down continually.
Ask yourself, “Do I receive what I give or do I receive better”? Try allowing yourself to be refreshed in Baca and do not give the devil place. Forge on in life, has not it been filled with enough negativity, why allow it to come from you just as you received it and were hurt by it, refresh yourself in Baca and live for Christ.
If you are filled with inordinate affection and you keep mementos to look at and savor at a later date so you can “remember” and bring to your attention that other than Christ, try refreshing yourself in Baca, make a well and allow your tears to refresh you in repentance. Anything that comes before Christ or draws us in such a way that we remember or we shed tears over dead and gone people or animals, cars, records and other things, anything that does this is a strange god.
God wants us to serve Him and wants us to act as He would if He again were physically here on this earth. He never murmured, complained or put anyone down.
He had nowhere to lay His head or call home and was not concerned about money, He just simply asked the father for everything He needed and thanked Him for hearing Him. He never loved anything above God’s laws and ordinances, He never lamented over things at all or to the point of it making Him see things of this world before He saw the Holy Father and I mean God not a sinful Pope or any other sinful man. He wept over Lazarus, but not because of him being dead, but because of the grief he felt within Mary and Martha.
He did not take a Polaroid so He could study it later, No Sir!
He just did something about it.
His eyes and heart were set above and to do the will of the one whom sent Him. I fear that the people of the world have become too cushioned and worldly education has over taken them, not a university education but laziness as a Christian education.
We do not stand for what was stood for at Azusa Street or from the pulpit of John Wesley, Jonathan Edwards or C.H. Spurgeon and that this is the cause of our great Spiritual decline. I am looking to God however, to raise us up as we come back to Him as we should and as we put things in their proper perspective, we shall find ourselves in a better state of mind and heart and our eternal soul will thank us for the change we have made.
The ordinances of God are the believer's solace in this evil world; in them he enjoys the presence of the living God: this causes him to regret his absence from them.
They are to his soul as the nest to the bird. Yet they are only an earnest of the happiness of heaven; but how can men desire to enter that holy habitation, who complain of Divine ordinances as wearisome? Those are truly happy, who go forth, and go on not in the exercise of religion, but in the strength of the grace of Jesus Christ, from whom all our sufficiency is.
The pilgrims to the heavenly city may have to pass through many a valley of weeping, and many a thirsty desert; but wells of salvation shall be opened for them, and consolations sent for their support. Those that press forward in their Christian course, shall find God add grace to their graces. And those who grow in grace shall be perfect in glory. (Henry)
