Encouragement
"Some trust in chariots, and some in horses;
But we will remember the name of the Lord our God." ~ Psalm 20:7
2500 years ago Israel was a world power to be feared. This all came through God's promises, first to Abraham, renewed again to Moses. The nation ruled fiercely in the center of its Gentile neighbors, many of whom did not have Israel's best interests at heart.
The moral decay of that mighty nation was impalpably slow, yet gradual and sure. Many of their kings encouraged the decline through their example and rule with the Temple being the direct victim of the people's assault of idolatry and unwillingness to pursue the One True God who had blessed them so. Surely the Lord blessed this nation for a time, patiently, while they failed to bless their God. All the while God, through His prophets, warned of the nation's coming fall if they did not return to Him. Eventually He doled out His judgment and kept His promise through Babylon.
In His Word there are many warnings for us. Could the story of Israel and the splinter-nation of Judah be a warning for any country today?
Are we aware of enemies who have a fierce hatred for Christ and His followers? Have those enemies been successful in their attacks on Christians? Can they possibly invade any nation they perceive as Christian fundamentally.
Israel trusted in its military might, only to be disappointed. They had state of the art weaponry of their time that seemed a guarantee against any invasion. Still they fell because of the Lord's Promise of Warning. They trusted in their chariots and horses instead of the One True God who is willing and able to see His will through.
The verse above reminds us where we should place our trust as the Lord can orchestrate History to where a certain people group can do nothing else but trust the Lord of their Salvation. He is not hesitant to allow a nations fall so that many would turn to Him. God is not obligated to bless any nation that refuses to bless Him in return through obedience. He has right and say over any soul that exists on this planet. God has always given warning before He allows, even directs a nation's destruction. Trusting in the One True God through His Son is always the wisest choice to make however things transpire.
