A couple in Eastern Europe

A couple in Eastern Europe.
Upon this allegorical Wisteria tree they rest. For a season it flourished by way of the passions inflaming their relationship.
They are still a close-knit couple yet their once strong bond is being cleaved in two. She is wearing elaborate, rose gold velvet garb, with delicate hands wrapped round her knees. She thinks about this summer, like an Elenore Abbott watercolor, and ponders emotions that her beloved rouses within.
Noting the lack of budding white flowers upon the shrub, her eyes turn to him.
As a draft billows her mane of raven hair, she senses that even the elements are testifying to the fact their relationship has entered a new spell.
He glances at her tanned features playfully, then back to the novel in his hands, engrossed in its pages. For her part she wishes he had studied her intimately. She recognizes something vital, concerning them both, diminished in these fleeting months.
The sounds of children running along a nearby road draw her notice, singing ethereal odes as they enjoy the innocence of perpetual youth. With the eyes of her understanding enlightened she discerns in them an expected end to this liaison of hers.
These are messenger Angels.
Alexander notices and is lured to what she is contemplating. The words form on his lips, but for reasons he will dwell on for years to come he does not speak.
Full of admiration, she considers them meanwhile and comprehends to some degree what has been missing in her days.
Later, the man with angelic eyes sits at a piano playing Gustav Mahler's Adagietto as his own voice narrates the misfortune he sees in this all. His fingers are well accustomed to its keys: "Elena spoke to me later below that failing tree. She said what was stated in a dream I had. This is what she struggled to verbalize as we strolled across the rolling Caucasus countryside.
Words regarding the yearning she bore for Him who lit life, that virtuous innocence she beheld outside. If only Jesus's light would illuminate us both.
Elena reclines on a sofa, pouring over a much-loved book as fire burns in the hearth. This is that flame of two souls tied together, contented by the glare of its fallen love. It kept a manner of warmth in our home. However, only the indwelling grace of God ignites the Holy Spirit's fellowship. Inevitably that fireplace will be quenched. Then she will go. I smile at her tenderly and mourn as she beams back one of her own."
"She's gone. The literature is no longer absorbing, unable to arouse even the simplest of interest anymore. The glossy chords of violins yoked to the profoundness of our shared regret dance all the way through that room nowadays. The novel lies open and unread on a table. I am outside in a ghostly night.
With arms wrapped about my staggering figure tears begin to flow unchecked. Racked by sobs I gawk at a field of wheat, which echoes with children's laughter, then at a Full Moon filling the sky.
When I realized nothing remained to gladden my heart, that grace of Jesus rescued me.
He alone knew his purpose for us. We invoked him and he listened.
Years afterward Elena and I would find each other again, our lives losses recompensed. Thankfully, we were renewed in youth by His ardor."
