“And I, even I Artaxerxes the king, do make a decree to all the treasurers which are beyond the river, that whatsoever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it be done speedily,” - Ezra 7:21
=====================================
There were kings and rulers who were used by God to further the work of the Gospel. They used their position to enforce laws that would bring changes across the land and glorify the name of the Most High God, “And I, even I Artaxerxes the king, do make a decree to all the treasurers which are beyond the river, that whatsoever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it be done speedily,” [Ezra 7:21].
As decrees, laws and judgements are passed that ascribe to righteousness, it spreads awareness of the Truth bringing more into the understanding that the Lord God is to be feared and followed, “Whatsoever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be diligently done for the house of the God of heaven: for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons?” [Ezra 7:23]. It is no wonder Ezra blessed God for how He used the kings to prosper the work, “Blessed be the Lord God of our fathers, which hath put such a thing as this in the king's heart, to beautify the house of the Lord which is in Jerusalem:” [Ezra 8:27].
Kings are not beyond the reach of the Lord. Those in authority may appear as unreachable in terms of who can receive Christ. But it is the will of God that kings across the nations be brought to Christ and have planted in them such heart as was found in Artaxerxes. When a king is saved, it also helps to bring peace into the land, “For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.” [1 Timothy 2:2].
But the salvation of those ruling the masses is not achieved by human effort or human wisdom, it is only by the spirit of God bringing it to be. May the Lord blow upon the high places of nations across the world. May the name of Jesus and reverence of that name be found in constitutions and policy books in the near future in different regions of the world. May He stir the heart of a king, a prime minister, a president, leaders out there to seek Truth. When this is so, it aids the fulfillment of the commission given and brings glory to the name of Jesus Christ.
