Blessed in Jesus—blessed to know
Grace and peace he will bestow
Blessed to hold his nail scarred hand
Strength he gives to make a stand
Blessed with courage for the fray
For he goes with us every day
Blessed to feel compassion sweet
For all per chance that we may meet
Blessed with love to conquer strife
If you know Jesus, you're blessed for life _______________________________________________________________
"I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything I learned from my Father I have made known to you." John 15:15
There is no gift so deeply cherished as friendship. Many times however, the people in our lives who we count as friends are really only someone with whom we are fairly well acquainted. Should your friends learn every secret of your heart or if you should fall into some ill repute or sin, many of your acquaintances will draw away from you, not wanting to tarnish their image by association with you. But Jesus, oh what a faithful friend He is! Already knowing our most secret thoughts, Jesus' friendship is unconditional. There is no love like divine love, no friend like Jesus.
Joseph Scriven lived a life full of tragedy and disappointments. Loneliness haunted his steps, having lost two fiancé's to the bandit of death just before the wedding. Yet Joseph's troubled life produced a relationship with his Savior that was a beautiful friendship. No matter what trouble plagued him, Jesus was always there to strengthen, comfort, guide and save him. Joseph Scriven wrote the much loved Christian hymn; "What a friend we have in Jesus."
There is a nail scarred hand that reaches out to you and to me and to anyone who will take hold of it. It is an offer of true friendship, the kind that is rarely found on earth.
