Christian Living
In meditation in prayer the following came to me which I wanted to share with those who love the Lord and His word.
I was trying to remember what I had read just a few hours before and realized I couldn’t. At first it bothered me but then the Lord reminded me that reading the word should be for our soul like eating is for the body. We eat and then trust that our body will do the work of assimilating the food into our bodies for nourishment and life.
While it is nice to remember as much of the word as possible, the main thing is that we read in such a way that we trust the Lord Himself as the living and active Word to assimilate it into our soul to do it’s precious work. Learning and remembering doctrines does not conform us into the image of Christ, rather it is by reading by faith, trusting that what we read is being assimilated into the core of our being and thus imparting the divine life of Christ within. The word itself does the work if we trust and allow it to. If however we think we must gain intellectual knowledge and understanding of all doctrines and teachings in order to mature in life then we actually negate the it’s effect. This is why it is written to stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. This means that instead of trying we are trusting, instead of our strength we enter His rest. Thus I suggest that as we read the word we pray over it, and we enjoy it’s truths as we would savor and chew the choicest foods, trusting that it is entering and being assimilated into the depths of our soul. It is also like the farmer who plants the seed and then it grows over night without any of his strength or doing anything at all. He simply plants it and then God causes the growth.
This is a great paradigm shift because it is in contrast to how we generally operate. We feel like we must learn and understand great and numerous truths, doctrines and teachings and yet this is far from the truth. Since Jesus is the Word, we must approach the word as we would eat His flesh and drink His blood. That is the meaning of this scripture, that we simply eat and drink the word for our life and nourishment growing strong in spirit, how we do not know.
This takes practice because it is not natural for us to approach the word in this fashion. In time however it becomes more than natural. It becomes sweet and easy. It becomes more and more effective almost like immersing a sponge into water and just allowing it to absorb the water.
“How blessed is the man who delights in the law of the Lord and in his law does he meditate day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields fruit in it’s season.”
“Commit your way to the Lord, TRUST also in Him and He will do it. He will bring for your righteousness as the light…rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him.”
Eat these words as they are for your enjoyment and nourishment towards the eternal life of Christ. Chew your food well and let IT do it’s work by faith. To try to do more is like taking the food back out of your stomach. You can however meditate day and night therein which may add the spiritual digestive juices ! Haha Amen !
