I Timothy Part 5 1 of 2
We are continuing along here in the book of Timothy. This book is another chapter regarding how to conduct and operate in the church or where the Word of God is taught. Remember the majority of the people are Gentiles, or new to the Word of God, as they are from other nations, and Timothy, this spiritual son of Paul’s the one that God has lead to set up this location and teach the people. So here let’s get into this:
I Timothy 5:1 “Rebuke not an elder, but interest him as a father, and the younger men as brethren;”
I Timothy 5:2 “The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity;”
I Timothy 5:3 “Honour widows that are widows indeed.”
This is regarding different groups of people. We have to remember at this time the church would be used to support welfare or social services today we have like in Social Security and Welfare of our government. The church then would provide these people financially so let’s put this in perspective. As Jesus tells us directly here:
Mark 7:5 “Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him, “Why walk not Thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?”
These Pharisees and scribes, remember the sons of Cain, or the serpent’s, or Satan’s offspring or children, or seed, of Genesis 3:15, who the house of Judah, or the Jews, used to keep the Word of God here:
I Chronicles 2:55 “And the families of the scribes which dwelt at Jabez; the Tirathites, the Shimeathites, and Suchathites. These are the Kenites that came of Hemath, the father of the house of Rechab.”
Kenites (Strong’s 7017) A Kenite or member of the tribe of Kajin; (paternal ancestor from Strong’s 7014) Kajin, the name of the first child, an Oriental tribe; Cain; (same as Strong’s 7013) a lance (as striking fast); spear; (from Strong’s 6969 in the sense of fixity) to strike a musical note, i.e. chant or wail (at a funeral), lament.
They were so caught up in their men’s traditions, or religion, which some of the major religions do this to this day! Then Jesus responded with the Word of God, quoting way back in the Old Testament in Isaiah. We need the entire Word of God, not just the New Testament as so many ignorant preachers and teachers of God’s Word teach today as Jesus is quoting here:
Mark 7:6 “He answered and said unto them, “Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, ‘This People honoureth Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.”
Mark 7:7 “Howbeit in vain do thy worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.’”
Jesus is quoting from here:
This church or synagogue leaders appear very religious, doing the rituals, wearing the robes and so forth, but their heart, meaning their minds are so far away from the Lord, Who is The Word of God as in Revelation 19:13! You want to know more about Jesus? Then read His Word as that is His very name! Then they teach what their religious organizations and church seminaries have fed them, rather than disciplining their minds in the simple, straight-forward truth of the Word of God. Then Jesus is quoting right here:
Isaiah 29:13 “Wherefore the LORD said, “Forasmuch as this people draw near Me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour Me, but have removed their heart far from Me, and their fear toward Me is taught by the precept of men:”
Isaiah 29:14 “Therefore, behold I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this People, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.”
These people, who were appointed by the Roman government as the scribes and high priests who controlled the land of Judea at this time of the Roman empire. Not according to the Word of God. Many of these sons of Cain, or Kenites, had mixed in with Judah, claiming to be of Judah, or Jews, as they are really the offspring of Satan by their actions, or by their fruit we know them:
Matthew 7:16 “Ye shall know them by their fruits, Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?”
Matthew 7:17 “Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.”
Matthew 7:18 “A good tree can not bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.”
Matthew 7:19 “Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.”
Matthew 7:20 “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.”
So by what these scribes and Pharisees, these sons of Cain who were using the funds of the people’s tithings and love offerings for all their traditions of men, not even for what they were supposed to do. To help the mothers and fathers, especially the widows and orphans! We see here as Jesus states that by their fruit, or what they do we know who they are! They are of the synagogue of Satan:
Revelation 2:7 “He hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.’”
Revelation 2:8 “And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; ‘These things saith the First and the Last, Which was dead, and is alive;”
Revelation 2:9 “I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty (but thou art rich), and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.”
Jews (Strong’s 2453) Judean, or resident of Judea; i.e. belonging to Jehudah; (from Strong’s 2448) Judah, a part of (or place in) Palestine; (Strong’s Hebrew 3063) celebrated; Jehovah (or Judah), the name of five Israelites, or the tribe descended from the first, and of its territory.
This is one of the two churches of the Book of Revelation that Jesus approved by what they taught, not by their name. The ones that teach who those that say they are Jews, meaning from the tribe of Judah, or by blood. A Jew can either mean a resident of the country of Judea or Israel today, OR a member of the tribe of Judah. They obviously are not as we know them by their actions. So even though these may not be the most popular, powerful or wealthy in the material sense churches, they teach the Word of God and that is what is important here. Then going back to:
Mark 7:8 “For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such keep your own tradition.”
Mark 7:9 “And He said unto them, “Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.”
Mark 7:10 “For Moses said, “Honour thy father and thy mother:’ and “Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:’”
They did all this ceremonial washing of the vessels of the temple, which are NOT commanded by God in the Word of God! Some of these things are done today in religions and churches, not based on God’s Word. As remember Jesus was quoting from Isaiah we just read their lips honor Him, or say they are believers or “Christians” but their actions of doing this is NOT what God’s Word has commanded us to do! So they focus on these rites and rituals, forgetting about their own fathers and mothers, not helping them out financially, as remember the church or the synagogues at this time supported the elderly, like we have social services and welfare, and social security in our government system today in the United States. Then Jesus is quoting again, yes in the Old Testament! Way back here in:
Exodus 20:12 “Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.”
Exodus 21:17 “And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.”
This is one of the ten commandments. If we curse our parents, we are cursing ourselves, bringing that action on our own selves! Especially as these scribes and Pharisees who appeared like very “holy and religious” people, but inside could care less about others, even their own parents! They were making tons of money off of the synagogue, just like in so many churches today that rob God’s children of His Word! Then going on here:
Mark 7:11 “But ye say, ‘If a man shall say to his father or mother, ‘It is Corban, (that is to say, a gift), by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;’ he shall be free.’”
Mark 7:12 “And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;”
Corban (Strong’s 2878) a votive offering and the offering; a consecrated present (to the Temple fund); (the latter term) the Treasury itself, i.e. the room where the contribution boxes stood; (from Hebrew and Chaldee Strong’s 7133) something brought near the altar, i.e. a sacrificial present; oblation, that is offered, offering.
These hypocrites, the Kenites, or sons of Cain, who are of the synagogue of Satan, his offspring or children literally as in Genesis 3:15, that serpent, as Satan is the old serpent of Revelation 12:9 and 20:2. They say these are gifts or offering to the Temple’s fund, so worried about keeping their own “incomes” coming in by keeping the money in there, so they had their salaries and benefits ripping off the people of actually learning God’s Word. Also, supporting the elderly, orphans as remember again, at this time, the synagogue was the government amongst the people of Israel, even though they were under Roman rule. They managed the people, and should have been supporting them, but filled their own pocketbooks saying it was a gift for the synagogue, or church! As here:
Ezekiel 13:18 “And say, ‘Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the (women) that sew pillows to all armholes, and make kerchiefs upon the head of every stature to hunt souls! Will ye hunt the souls alive (that come) unto (you)?”
Ezekiel 13:19 “And will ye pollute Me among My People for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to My People that hear your lies?”
Ezekiel 13:20 “Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD; ‘Behold, I am against your pillows, wherewith ye there hunt the souls to make them fly, and I will tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, even the souls that ye hunt to make them fly.”
Here the subject is false prophets. The Lord GOD is hammering these fake teachers that covering up the statures, so right at the top of their religious organizations, covering up the truth of God’s Word! They put pillows, or covers, over the people’s arms that are stretching upwards to learn more about God, but get only these false prophets traditions of men! They hunt down souls, as remember we are talking about people’s eternal life here! Not just our flesh life, but they are robbing them of this gift! They pollute the Lord God, meaning His Word, and they do it for handfuls of barley, and to bring this up to date, they are in it for the “bread”, the “dough”, meaning the money! They slay, meaning to murder, people’s souls by doing this! Then in Ezekiel 13:20 the Lord God is against that cover-ups they teach people to “fly away” or that they will be “raptured”! God then says that HE will tear those lies from the false prophets as when Jesus returns HE will pour out the wrath of God! Why? Because the majority of this entire world will be in be, spiritually, with Satan, and how they easily will get there one way is by this teaching to “fly away” which God is stating HE is against! Now then continuing here:
I Timothy 5:4 “But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.”
I Timothy 5:5 “Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.”
I Timothy 5:6 “But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.”
I Timothy 5:7 “And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless.”
So a widow or widower who then does not have family to support them, they at this time the synagogue should have been helping them. So an elderly person unable to support themselves, without family to help them. Remember at this time no social security or welfare and so on like we have today, or even retirement money, pensions and so forth. Now going on here is advice to those that are widowed. If they are not working, it’s better they work in the church or with the people, rather doing things of this world which always can lead us into trouble as here some of the traits of a virtuous woman:
Proverbs 31:10 “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.”
Proverbs 31:27 “She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.”
She is not an idle person, always keeping busy, and especially in the Word of God daily to keep us out of trouble. Even more deeply here, we all are widows and widowers, as our Husband, those election who are already judged called the wife as in Revelation 19:7-8, as well as those with free will, the Bride. This way we can be people that God can use to do His will, and He always blesses us with what we deserve by our actions as here:
Matthew 6:19 “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:”
Matthew 6:20 “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break nor steal:”
Matthew 6:21 “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
Matthew 6:25 “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body more than raiment?”
Matthew 6:26 “Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?”
Matthew 6:27 “Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto this stature?”
Matthew 6:28 “And why take ye thought of raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:”
Matthew 6:29 “And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.”
Matthew 6:30 “Wherefore, if God so cloth the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven shall He not much more clothe you? O ye of little faith?”
Matthew 6:31 “Therefore take no thought, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or, ‘What shall we drink? Or, ‘Wherewithal shall we be clothed?’”
Matthew 6:32 “(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.”
Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Matthew 6:34 “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”
If we are focused on dear God and His Word, that is where our focus will be, where we will have eternal rewards and that’s our payday! So don’t be so focused on your flesh life, your job, money, of course, there is a time and place for this. But if we look to dear God, pray and really talk with Him, then spend sometime in His Word, He will bless us! With God’s election we sometimes don’t even know what to pray for as He already knows His plan in our lives, but be ready with that gospel armor of Ephesians 6:11-15, that full armor of the Word of God so you will be fully equipped for Him to use you when HE needs you. Then don’t worry about anything, for that will not add one inch to you! In fact that stress takes years off your life, if you are continually stressed out! Look at nature, like the lilies that don’t worry about anything, but grow naturally. No clothing of Solomon, the wealthy and wise king that God so much loved and blessed, was never dressed better than any of those beautiful blooms of the lilies! Even the grass God has there today, serves it’s purpose in nature, whether it fades and dies or is replenished by some animal in the food chain who eats from it. God’s plan is natural and good. The nature reaches out to the Sun, Which dear God is always symbolized by here:
Malachi 4:1 “For, behold the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.”
Malachi 4:2 “But unto you that fear My name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in His wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.”
Malachi 4:3 “And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.”
Sun (Strong’s 8121) to be brilliant; the sun; by implication the east; figurative a ray, i.e. (architectural) a notched battlement: east side, sun (rising), window.
wings (Strong’s 3671) an edge or an extremity; specifically (of a bird or army) a wing, (of a garment or bed-clothing) a flap, (of the earth) a quarter, (of a building) a pinnacle; (from Strong’s 3670) to project laterally, i.e. probably (reflexive to withdraw, be removed.
The subject here is the Lord’s Day, when this flesh earth is then ended, and the spiritual age, as all flesh that are living at the Lord’s return will change to spiritual bodies as in I Corinthians 15:52. The Lord is the Sun of righteousness. With His wings, meaning His armies which are fighting in His election, on earth as well as in heaven, is where God can use His servants. Especially here in I Timothy 5, the subject is the church and how people can be useful, especially the widows. Then the Lord we know will not “fly us away”, but His feet will touch the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem as in Zechariah 14:4 when He returns after Satan comes at the last and final seventh trumpet of Revelation 11:15. There is no reason we need to worry about what we’ll eat or drink, or what clothes, house, car, job or any material thing that you may be concerned about. The reason is that Heavenly Father, The King of kings and Lord of lords, Who is all knowing if you are doing His Word of God, and striving to learn of Him so He can use you, will bless you! Give Him room to bless you by setting some time with Him everyday in prayer and reading the Word, that Anchor is His Word, then work at whatever challenge you are going through and He will bless. Don’t give up! Be joyful and rejoice and thank Him for the lifeblood in your veins, your health, the beautiful day He has set before you, for HE is worthy of praising always! As here:
Psalms 105:1 “O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon His name: Make known His deeds among the people.”
Psalms 105:2 “Sing unto Him, sing psalms unto Him: Talk ye of all His wondrous works.”
Psalms 105:3 “Glory ye in His holy name: Let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.”
Psalms 105:4 “Seek the LORD, and His strength: Seek His face evermore.”
Psalms 105:5 “Remember His marvellous works that HE hath done; His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth;”
Psalms 105:6 “Oh ye seed of Abraham His servant, Ye children of Jacob His chosen.”
Psalms 105:7 “He is the LORD our God; His judgments are in all the earth.”
Psalms 105:8 “He hath remembered His covenant for ever, The word which He commanded to a thousand generations.”
We can always thank Heavenly Father for His Word, giving us that hope, and that solid proof, and evidence of His Love for us all. We can go to Psalms 22 and read the very words that the Lord Jesus Christ recited while the sons of Cain, bruised His heel as the first prophesy of God’s Word the first part, came true of Genesis 3:15. We are to make His deeds, all the wonderful miracles of how God lead and directed Moses to lead His people from slavery, through the Red Sea, across the desert, as a Cloud of protection by day and a Light by night, feeding them quail and manna, and their clothing never rotted. God gets done what HE needs to fulfil His Word as He has foretold us His Plan. Nothing hidden nor secret. We can sing those wonderful psalms of The Word and thank Him for them. In His holy Name, as Revelation 19:13, is the Word of God:
Revelation 19:13 “And He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and His name is called The Word of God.”
Continually seek His face, meaning His Word, and His attention. Pray and talk with Him, and be real about it. Nothing fake or repetitive trying to appear holy, but sincere words. We can praise and thank Him for giving us eyes to see and hear His Word with understanding, what a blessing that gift is in this terribly dark world today. His chosen, Jacob, or the name God renamed Jacob to is Israel, God selected before the foundation of this world age as HE by their actions, could use those people to bring us the Saviour and Messiah, the Lord Jesus. That seed of Abraham, which today anyone that believes on His Word as in John 3:16 is part of that family. He is our LORD, and we love HIM! All of His Word is in this earth. The plants and animals striving towards Him, living following the instincts that dear God has blessed them with. The planets, earth, moon and stars orbiting the way that God has put them to do in His perfect order as here, HE tells Job after Job as God allows Satan free reign over Job, saying that Job would not still love the Lord as all that evil was brought on him:
Job 38:1 “Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,”
Job 38:2 “Who is that darkened counsel by words with knowledge?”
Job 38:3 “Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou Me.”
Job 38:4 “Where was thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if thou hast understanding.”
Job 38:5 “Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? Or who laid the corner stone thereof:”
Job 38:21 “Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? Or because the number of thy days is great?”
Job 38:22 “Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? Or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,”
Job 38:31 “Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?”
So here the LORD finally comes to Job after Job went to his three friends, who were Gentiles, or not people of Israel so did not know the Word of God, giving him advice. God right asks Job why are you going to these people who have not a clue about Me that darken your knowledge, or really throw him off track! Then God says to gird up his loins, or stand up like a man and answer God, for we know poor Job was probably at his knees at this point, the Lord’s throne before at this time came to and from the earth. Then God asks Job all kinds of questions, that we can remind ourselves to see the wonderful glory and miracles of the LORD God Almighty all around us. God then says where were you when this earth age, the foundation of this earth, was laid down, do you know? Or how the earth’s time then from that point began, that Chief Corner Stone, the Lord. Then God asks do you know when you were born, and then how many days your life would be? Or brought the snow or hail down? Or can you change the course or the path of Pleiades or Orion, two stars? Of course as people we cannot! That’s why it’s so sad when people look to men’s traditions, religion, and church doctrine, instead of going directly to the WORD of GOD that HE has foretold us! It’s right there in front of us and we can talk to dear God twenty four hours and a day and seven days a week. Then going on here:
I Timothy 5:8 “But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.”
I Timothy 5:9 “Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man.
I Timothy 5:10 “Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.”
infidel (Strong’s 571) disbelieving, i.e. without Christian faith (specifically a heathen), untrustworthy person, unbeliever.
Then back here regarding those widows and widowers that have family, their families are worse than unbelievers if they don’t help them! Then some advice, and all people are different, those widows and widowers over age 60, where we usually have been through menopause, our sexual drives and passions may be not as when we were younger. Then the advice here is since they have a wealth of information as raising their children, and helping the people of the Lord, they are good servants in the church to help others. We have to point out today some people either naturally or with the aid of modern medicine like Viagra, hormones and so forth, it may be better for them to marry than to burn in their passion:
I Corinthians 7:6 “But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment.”
I Corinthians 7:7 “For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.”
I Corinthians 7:8 “I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide widows. It is good for them if they abide even as I.”
I Corinthians 7:9 “But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.”
So Paul saying, and advising only, not a commandment from God, but to help the church and be good servants to God in their personal happiness. He is saying it would be better if all would be unmarried, but realizes that we all have different gifts. Some God created as mothers and fathers, so it’s better to marry than burn with passion. Then going on here:
I Timothy 5:11 “But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;”
I Timothy 5:12 “Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.”
I Timothy 5:13 “And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.”
I Timothy 5:14 “I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.”
I Timothy 5:15 “For some are already turned aside after Satan.”
I Timothy 5:16 “If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.”
Then next here a new subject, the younger widows, again this is advise in conducting the church back then and applies to all of us today. Especially if you are a new widow, or a new believer, it’s probably better you really stick with the Word of God, as you need to get that Word of God ingrained in your mind, so you then from memory and exercising the Word daily to not stray from His Word. Naturally, when God is beginning a good work, that, as Jesus showed us both in Matthew and Luke Chapter 4, that right at the beginning of the Lord’s ministry, Satan then attacked Him. This was for our benefit, not His, as that is when we are at our weakest, being ignorant of God’s Word and without discipline and practice in it. Then it’s better that all people are not idle, as guess what? That usually leads all people to gossip, get into other people’s business and we don’t need additional problems, especially in the house of worship where God’s Word should be focused on. That’s why be careful if you attend a church or place where the Word of God is taught, when the focus is more on the “Social” part, not the Bible study which is the point of church! So then if any person has a parent who is widowed, help them out, for again, at this time, the church did this for those widows and widowers without any family to financially support them. Again today we have social security, welfare and so forth as well as pensions and retirement plans for those who have worked for them. Then going on:
I Timothy 5:17 “Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.”
I Timothy 5:18 “For the Scripture saith, “Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn.” And, “The labourer is worthy of his reward.”
Quoting from here:
Deuteronomy 25:4 “Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn.”
