Fight the Liar with a Lyre
Not For Sale
Being that I am a singer/songwriter, I have come to appreciate the power of worshipful music. Finding it to be comforting and refreshing, I usually have music playing in my home daily. A few of my preferences are praise music and also contemporary Christian music. However, the hymns still remain one of my favorite ways to express worship to God. As we read through the bible, we see that men and women of God used musical instruments to show their adoration to God. Music was also used to war off the enemy, and in some cases brought victory to armies without them having to lift a sword.
Through the centuries, music has taken on many modifications. As the time changes, so thus the music we listen to seems to follow suit. I am not saying that it is good or bad, it is just a fact.
King David, as a young lad, understood the ministering power of music as no other man known in the bible. He himself was a psalmist who played the lyre, otherwise known as a harp. King Saul requested David to come and play for him frequently. Saul, recognizing that he was being attacked by evil spirits, would request David to come and play his harp.
And it happened when the spirit from God was on Saul, that David took a harp and played with his hand. And there was relief for Saul, and it was well with him, and the evil spirit departed from him.
(1 Samuel 16:23) NKJ
Satan, being the father of lies, and the chief liar, cannot remain in the presence of worship. He flees at the sound of instruments and voices raising glory to God. Why else do you think the importance of worshipping through music was emphasized through out the centuries? It is still alive today. Some musical preferences have caused rifts among God's people to enter into true worship. I find myself at times, now being in my mid 40's, not so much embracing the newer contemporary style of today. I suppose my elders have experienced the same disinclination. We also know that Satan himself, before being cast out of heaven, was the chief worship leader in heaven. He still plays a strong influence when it comes to any music that is hostile towards God. You might say he is trying to play his lyre a little louder than the saints. Back in the 70's people started blaming contemporary music for the increase of crime in the nation. As of today, some music has been banned due to its hostile nature and suggestive innuendo's. Realistically, as a believer, we can know that Satan is not going down without a fight.
We can fight back offensively, and not defensively. Praise is a deterrent to any onslaught of demonic force. King Saul, King David and many of our forefathers used worship music to annihilate demonic attacks. Feeling a little low in spirit today? Need a positive boost in the right direction? I suggest playing some worship music. It will heal, soothe and restore peace to your spirit. This is one way, we as believers, can proactively protect our hearts and minds from evil influence. Contemporary Christian music is the fastest growing genre today. I believe many people are finding it as a mode to practical worship. I know, when used correctly in my own life, it is a mighty weapon that thwarts the enemy's plan. Those who will overcome are those who worship God, in spirit and truth.
