Encouragement
“Let me see the dazzling light of your presence.” Exodus 33:18
Today we celebrate Halloween. I wonder whether, we truly require a special day once a year to celebrate this occasion, considering the fact that people seem to be wearing masks in some form or the other every other single day to hide their feelings and true inner selves.
I once walked into a mall and on seeing all the mannequins missing from the front display, I remarked in a loud tone to my friend ; “ I think all the mannequins have gone for a walk.” To my horror, a group of people walking close by stopped dead in their tracks to turn around and glance at me which left me feeling quite embarrassed.
But, somehow, come to think of it, today, we ourselves have become like mannequins, we definitely stand in Church as one. We will neither open up our hearts in front of God and ask Him for something nor will we treat Him as a friend sharing all our joys and woes with him. We just perform our perfunctory duties by responding to the prayers required without actually coming alive in the presence of the One True God who has hidden himself behind the frail host for our sake since we would not be able to stand the brilliance of His splendor.
The problem with us is that deep down, we all feel insecure. We are put off by the idea that if we do reveal our true feelings to the people we love and care about, they will not respond in the manner that we expect. Worse still, we do not want our innermost emotions to be displayed. We prefer to remain silent with our thoughts and carry on in this same manner. If only we had the insight to speak what is in our hearts; to reach out our hands and let our feelings flow from them, then, we would be rewarded with our heart’s desires.
Today, I am reminded of Elisha. Before his master; Elijah was taken up to Heaven in a chariot of fire, he asked Elisha if there was anything that he could do for him. And, you know what Elisha did! He asked for a share of Elijah’s power that would make him his successor.
Wish we all had the courage of Elisha to ask God for even double or triple the amount of spiritual power, strength, courage, healing, wisdom, knowledge and fortitude to spread His word to others and use it for the glory of the Kingdom.
We just have to lift our hands and ask Him as God himself promised that whatever we ask for in prayer, to believe that it has already been granted to us.
It’s time we stopped being like a mannequin and instead of hiding behind our masks, we should start using our hands to worship and pray to Him; our feet to run to Him like a child, our lips to praise Him, our eyes to see His infinite love hidden there; our ears to catch the words being spoken ever so tenderly, our knees to kneel before His awesome presence , our minds to be always conscious of Him, our hearts to forever love Him and our souls to be united with Him in Eternity. Let the weight of his glory cover us and fill us with power.
There is no need for us to put on any masks with the one we love because love itself is an emotion that is clear and transparent .
I came across an interesting quote which read; “Sometimes, people build walls not to keep the others out but to see who will care enough to tear them down.”
Perhaps, it’s time for us to penetrate through the superficial barriers that hinders love and reach to the core of the heart where love can be found shining in all its glory with no hidden masks obstructing it.
