Devotionals
When I was a little girl, there was a special time during the day called show and tell. It was a special time where you got to share about something special that you had brought along to school that day.
It was the most important time of the day in the eyes of many children You got to show off and brag without it being considered rude.
Now, we have a bigger world in which to play show and tell called my space, face book, yahoo and any other number of social networks that allow us to spread our words and pictures around the globe.
For the most part I enjoy them. I love hearing about new babies, weddings, graduations, etc...
To see the pictures even when we can't be there helps me to feel the moment and share in the joy and laughter of my dear ones.
And to hear the celebratory news of promotions, vacations and other big accomplishments that take place in the lives of far flung friends helps to make the miles of distance feel smaller.
But some things should not be shared.
Among them is one of the most troubling trends that seem to have cropped up in the world of social networking.
The self trumpeting by Christians of their individual horns.
Every time I see one I not only wince, but a part of me wonders what are they thinking?
I am not talking about the sharing of mission trips or even VBS.
What I am talking about is the very detailed accounts of what should have been to God's glory and instead becomes a great big “me” show.
Where God gets second billing, if any, in what happened.
I believe it is a blessing to be used by God to help others through their struggle.
It is not to be misused as public step to shameless self promotion.
To do so, is like the teaspoon taking credit for the dinner.
With this behavior we will wind up looking foolish to other Christians and we will earn the disdain of those that are not of the body of Christ.
The Lord knows what we have each done, for His glory and otherwise, no need to blow our own horns.
Instead it is time we move away from the show and tell attitude, and joyfully proclaim the testimony of His grace and mercy, to all the ones around us.
For when our days are over we will stand before His throne, as His humble servant, and hear the words well done good and faithful servant.
For His praise is sweeter than that of any other.
1Pe 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

Lisa, I whole heartedly agree with you. It is all about Jesus, not about us. You have a great way with words, and you are able to share them with us in a very interesting way. I am delighted when I see another post by you. May God richly bless you and your husband and children.
