Devotionals
An inner desire for a life of purpose motivates us to serve the Lord and others. The rewards outweigh the effort and those served show appreciation. A pat on the back is not necessary; the knowledge that we are needed is enough. If some one gives us the cold shoulder and refuses our assistance we feel unwanted.
John Mark once served along side of his cousin Barnabas and the Apostle Paul. For an unknown reason he left the missionary team and returned home. His departure caused a major difference of opinion between Paul and Barnabas. The heated argument resulted in a broken working relationship, but doubled ministry. Two separate teams were formed, made up of Paul and Silas and Barnabas and John Mark. (Acts 15:36-40)
John Mark knew Barnabas needed his companionship and efforts in evangelism. Barnabas wanted him as a faithful partner. It must have hurt him deeply to be rejected by Paul. Maybe the Lord used the painful situation to humble the young John Mark. Time is often needed to shape great leaders and servants. One day in the future Paul would want him deeply. “Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for ministry,
(2 Timothy 4:11 NKJ).” Never feel like what you do has no real value. You are wanted for service.
