Encouragement
Right now we live in an unusual time. The economy, technology, morality and our fast paced society add up to overload and stress. Even Christians are not immune to the attacks that seem to come one after another through life’s unfolding events. When I am struggling to focus on Jesus, how do I keep doing the things that He has called me to do?
We all have a different purpose to which God has called us to. You might work in the church or in the public eye. You could be a homemaker or a government official. When it comes to God and His purpose, we all struggle with staying motivated at one time or the other. When I am tired and thinking about throwing in the towel, I need to get motivated again. How do I do that?
One simple way is to check my motives and reevaluate where I am in life, ministry and relationships. I ask myself some simple questions. (1) Why do I do what I do? (2) Is my job or call fulfilling to me and others? (3) Do I want to assist others or just enjoy the applause? (3) Do I want to help others through what I do, make their lives better or more joyful? (4) Is my job or ministry something that is part time or full time? (5) Why do I want to give up? (6) Am I overworking or over booked? (7) Am I taking enough time to rest and enjoy the rest of my life? I take time several times during the year to see where I have been, where I am and where I am going. Is this lining up with what I believe is the will of God for my life?
You might say, “I have to work. What can change there?” I understand that for many, working outside the home is not an option. We still need to check our motives and see if there are things we can do different at work and home to make life more enjoyable and less stressful. Jesus came to give life and give it to the full, in abundance and until it runs over. Many times, my life is anything but that. I need to seek God in prayer and ask what needs to change. My relationship with God is strengthened through prayer, praise and worship. My relationships with others can then be strengthened and I can be motivated with true motives. Motives that not only please God and help others but relax the stress of my life.
