Hi everyone.
If you are a Platinum 500 member, it's time to get that first chapter and synopsis ready for this year's Page Turner contest.
Here's where you can find out all the details, and submit your application:
http://www.faithwriters.com/myaccount/F ... turner.php
(Non-Platinum members who would like to know more, you can find out here: http://www.faithwriters.com/page-turner.php )
This is the biggest contest we hold each year, so if you are working on a non-fiction book, or even have an idea for one in mind, this contest is for you.
After you submit, I will contact you to let you know that your entry has been safely received. In the early days of the contest, I won't be checking the entries every day. So give me a week or two, and if I haven't contacted you, PLEASE contact me and ask me to check. There is a link to my contact page near the bottom of both the above pages. If I'm online, you can use the chat button for an immediate response.
As always, the Page Turner contest is huge, and most definitely worth entering. If you miss out this year, there won't be another non-fiction Page Turner until 2014.
Love, Deb

Do you have an example/sample of what a Synopsis/Overview looks like? What it includes?

Re: The 2012 Page Turner Contest is Up and Running
Donna, for the Page Turner, for a non-fiction manuscript, the best synopsis may include this information:
The target readership (e.g. young adult, children, married women, single women, married couples, men, etc.) and why this best suits them.
Similar books on the market (if known) or at least the specific need for your book (as identified by you).
What your book brings that is different to any other (your unique take on the subject).
A brief overview of the book. For non-fiction, very brief explanation of each chapter, or at least key chapters, will do. Even if you are only in the early stages and don't have many chapters, at least show how you plan to guide the reader to the ultimate conclusion.
Hope that helps. We are very flexible, so don't worry too much. Just share your heart for this particular book.
Love, Deb

Hi Deb,
I have an idea that I am thinking of working on, and I thought I'd check if a devotional book/manuscript is acceptable for this year's Page Turner contest, or is it more for actual subjects, such as marriage, kids, whatever?
Blessings,
Helen

Helen, devotional books are fine.
The only thing not in the running is fiction.
Almost time to start stirring the Page Turner pot again. I always love the race to enter in the last month and a bit.

Deb - how about a devotional where the devos themselves are fictional (Biblical fiction, in this instance)? It's geared toward tweens.
Wondering which it would fit in - this year or next? AND, if it's co-written with someone who is NOT a platinum member, is that a problem?
Just exploring

Re: The 2012 Page Turner Contest is Up and Running
Jo, if they are fictional stories as the basis for devotions, that's a bit tricky. I'm assuming, though, that the stories are only to highlight devotional teaching? So story, then message?
I think that would probably suit best this year. It's a bit of both, but I think it suits this year. You see, the problem would be the same next year. And to be honest, the fiction year best suits novels, so I say enter this year.
And no problems with the co-author. As long as the one entering is a Platinum, all's good.

I know we only submit the first chapter for this contest but I'm curious about the finished product if I enter ... and win.
Is there an expected number of chapters, pages, words for the full work?

Sharon - I DO know that the editing prize if you win is limited to 300 pages, but I don't think there's any other limitations. (I'm sure it's fine if the book is longer than 300 pages - you just only get the free editing for that many).
Deb will be by shortly, I'm sure, with any further details.
