Finding and Using an Agent

I'm at that age where doing all the footwork is most unappealing and, probably, impossible for me. I'd rather find a willing and ambitious agent suited to promote my work. What is the best way to find and then woo an agent? Thank you!

I would look at Sally Stuart's Christian Writers' Market Guide, I believe she has a section on agents. I'd have to get my copy out and check (don't have time right now).

The only thing I really know about agents is if they ask you for money up front, it's a scam. An agent should only get paid AFTER they get you a contract and get a percentage that you agree to.

Finding an agent is almost as hard as a publisher because they have to be sure they have something they can sell. Having said that, I can only echo what Shari said. Get the Christian Market Guide and find a match.

If you are looking at a mainstream market, invest in a copy of the annual Writer's Market directory.

In the meantime, prepare a pitch to sell your writing.

Love, Deb

Thank ya'll for the information. The book is already finished. So I guess I'll start soliciting agents.
