Shoulder Surgery

Post by Shann » Sat Jul 20, 2019 4:38 pm

I have three tears in my shoulder. They don't think they can repair them because some are degenerative tears and one is a partial thickness tear, but they are going in with the scope to take better pictures, possibly repair tears, and get rid of bone spurs and scar tissue. Eventually I'll probably need a shoulder replacement surgery, but I'm too young right now. They are hoping this cleaning up (makes me shiver every time I think of it) will help the pain and swelling and allow us to postpone replacement for another six to eleven years. We are having a bad heat spell right now too. I'm a bit nervous about the surgery (okay a lot nervous and wanting to back out and not do it). The last time I had anesthesia, I had a wicked reaction, and have had many other reactions including seizures. I'm afraid of having to deal with more pain and am praying it won't be too bad and the surgery will help. I'll be out of commission for a few days, possibly two weeks, and if they do mend the tears, then the recovery could be as long as six months. I'd appreciate your prayers for pain control, successful surgery, empathetic doctors and nurses, and little anxiety on my end. The surgery is July 24. Thanks for all the support and love.

Thank you everyone. I appreciate it so much. I had such a bad experience with anesthesia in April so I'm more nervous than I ever remember being with something like this. I have to be at the hospital at 8am tomorrow morning.

Surgery went well. Still hurting a bit, but so grateful it's over and I didn't have bad reactions this time. Thank you for prayers. I've no doubt that's a big part of me getting through this.

Thanks. I go to PT to get dressing change on Monday. The sling is hard because of my sensitive skin. I've tape burns from dressings and blisters where sling touches skin. I can remove it just for a few minutes a day. Glad I can use my phone to connect with people. Knowing people care and are praying helps tons!

Had stitches out. Still can't drive, which is hard since we live in the country. But I'm starting to fill better. Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts.
