What happened here?

Post by shanekahkola » Fri Dec 20, 2019 3:51 pm

I'm guessing people like me are what has happened, but this place seems like a ghost town compared to what it was just three years ago. What has happened, and what can be done to revive it?

A lot of people have moved to FB. I'm glad you are back. We have some game threads that are active. The writing challenge is still here, although we are on a break until the new year. Yet the numbers have decreased quite a bit. The best thing to do is encourage others to come back and be active yourself. This time of year with NaNaMo and the holidays is a bit quiet normally. But the numbers are definitely down. There is a group on FB who encourage one another and talk, but the message boards and challenge entries are definitely at an all-time low. But so happy you popped back in! :welcome back

Just an opinion... In addition to competition with Facebook, many of the old-timers over 60 have aged-out, and the younger members have moved on. Unfortunately change happens, but I do miss the "active" board. It would be great to have a special "write-in" reunion thread of former faithwriters who may still be members.

Nevertheless, Deb, Jan, and Ann have left a great legacy that I'm sure many current members have found helpful in their writing endeavors. Kudos to those like Mike and Joanne who keep Faithwriters going.

I miss JesusPuppy, Kingphatcow, BusBoss, and Dub most of all. Plus Amy and some others whose names are victims of senior moments. Maybe we should have an online reunion. Age out of Faithwriters? How is that possible? Writing is for all ages!

I haven't heard from Pup in quite awhile, but talk to Amy and BusBoss regularly. Both have some health problems but seem to be managing as well as possible.

Yes, you're right, Dee. Writing has no age limit. However, the physical and sometimes mental incentive (motivation) to do so diminishes or is assigned to the "back burner" as we deal with the aging process. Some do better than others. :)

I hope everyone knows I was not being negative. I wanted to figure out where most of the activity had moved. I saw a lot of names I remember in the previous posts like KingPhatCow. I have been so hit-and-miss since 2006, so I'm really part of the "ghosting."

I'm looking forward to reconnecting.

Am back, I hope for a long spell - been in a lost world, part of it medical - If I could upload a pix I'd show you my bald head. I try to keep up with exercise as I can. Have written several "Christian Lite" novels - one of which may go somewhere, a publisher wants to present it as an online cast - its a love story. (Have 15 self pub novels now) By Christian lite I mean - realistic without violence, demeaning language, or certain extreme language. Like i said, I write now when I feel the story ebbing, most of the time I spend in language study or working on my keyboard (am a terrible musician, but I make an attempt). We had planned to be in Ireland again this summer, but uh, well, you know ... .

Hey, Dub!

So glad to see you. I joined in 2010 when the Boards were humming. You were part of that past, but glad to have you back again. :clap

Interesting to be back here - my post total disappeared, I guess under the new management there was a reset, no matter. Had a bugger of time getting back on, old passwords etc didn't work but the real or mechanical Michael was a great help. Spending so much time on the Pod Cast right now I hardly have time to write at all. Did publish a collection of short stories and essays (many old Challenge submissions). Put it together as a gift for my grandkids. Last few summers we have been spending with relatives in Ireland. Consequently, am trying to learn Irish Gaelic, as they now are switching to native language.
I hope to post or at least read FW almost every day.

Dub, so glad to see you! How are your lovely grandkids doing? I'm up to one grand niece and two grand nephews. Still working at my church, and still at the homeless shelter. Just cut my own hair for the first time in a long time since the salons are closed--I did a pretty decent job, if I do say so. Stay healthy!

Now, if JesusPuppy would come pay us a visit....

Per grandkids. Five of eight in college. Two just turned sixteen. One is a HS senior. Step-grandson is just 15 this year. My, how fast time flies. Cat died but inherited (from son) two dogs - long story. Two relative in Marine Corps - one is a pilot (Captain) - youngest son's brother-n-law. The other is a Gunny - dnl's brother n' law. Spend most of Spring/Summer/Fall time in my RV at the beach (where I am now - well truthfully split time, two weeks here and two weeks at home. Peaceful place to write. Like nearly everyone else, I go to church on-line.
