Who Becky...? Can't mean sweet little Spunky. She helps in my maddness. She even finally agreed that I was old and funny looking.

I'm really considering publishing my Christian teen novel on Smashwords. Is 100,000 words too much? I thought to slim it off or making 2 books. Thoughts?

It all depends on how absorbing / intense / gripping your story line. Also, somewhat on its genre. If it's a real "page turner" it can probably handle being that long or even longer.

If it's not, it needs to be tightened up, and not just for the sake of word count.

Traditionally, YA books tended to be a bit shorter than similar books aimed for the adult market.

The Harry Potter series was / is a game-changer where that is concerned. Here are the counts I found online for the books in that series. The first one was a bit longer than what used to be customary for YA. And it is the shortest of the series:

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Sorcerer's Stone in the US) - 76,944 words
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - 85,141 words
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - 107,253 words
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - 190,637 words
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - 257,045 words
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - 168,923
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - 198,227

Thanks for your input, Shelley. I think my story is a page turner and has slow moments. Perhaps you or someone here would like to read a few chapters and see what you think. PM me your email please if you'd like to read some of my book.
