While we're on the subject... my grandfather dropped out of school in 8th grade and became a successful engineer, now retired. Go figure. But then again, he's kind of crazy.

Speaking of grandparents, my two little brothers (10 & 11) are going to visit my mom's mom and stepdad in Sacramento. I am so envious! Those grandparents (we have a lot because of multiple step-families, lol) are super-talented musicians and we always have lots of fun with my grandma's ukulele and my grandpa's pedal steel, and of course singing singing singing. I miss them!

Well don't feel bad Tiara, I dropped out of school in the 8th grade. Had to work to support meself. Tried to go back but.... oh well. Maybe in the next life.
8th grade?????? what the flip hop? lol Um, no I don't mind, I was "homeschool" which in this house just really means you did like little to none school work. and I didn't have a program that would give test and grade them and give my a diploma, so I didn't graduate and I won't. Because I don't want one and I don't care to spend all the time to get one, so asking my about it I don't mind, but telling me I need to get my high school diploma that I do mind. I had one lady that anytime school was brought up she always tried shoving that and RunningStart down my throat.

So, although I know it's important and I don't care. GED works just as good. Which I'm gonna get, soon.....

Here in Oregon I believe your parents can just say, "You're graduated!" and you are. I'm not sure about the laws in Washington. But GED works fine too!

Fun bit of trivia about my username... I was named after that grandma, Grandma Kathy, for my middle name, thus, IvyKat (Ivy Kathleen). One of our traditions is watching "What About Bob" every time we visit and cackling at all the jokes we memorized long ago.

Yep...the GED is just fine.

I've home schooled my son all the way through, too. He's 16 (17 in August) and is taking his GED test this summer, then will take some (more) classes at the community college in the fall (he's taken karate there for over 2 years and also just took a GED prep class to be sure he had all the bases covered for that.)

None of the college / university reps he's talked to have any problem with his having taken the home school / GED route instead of a diploma.

Let us know when you take your test...we'll be cheering you on! :D

Yesterday, I attended the Special Olympics Summer games at Cal State Long Beach. What an awesome experience it was. Two of my clients placed first in wheelchair races. They were so excited!

It was really cool when the orange coast guard helicopter did a very low fly over -twice!

Law enforcement officers ,all decked out in their respective uniforms, led in the parade of counties for the athletes. This was for all of Southern California- From Ventura to San Diego.

"Chipper" The CHP mascot was about and it was so touching when he got down on his knees and interacted with a little 5 year old girl who had Down's Syndrome. Gave me goosebumps.

So did the crowd cheering on an athlete who would get overwhelmed and just sit there on the track. Everyone called out that persons names and encouraged them to reach the finish line. Then a big cheer would go out.

In the Special Olypics, Eveyone is a winner!
