Wk 6 Topic - RELATIVES Challenge

Postby Deb Porter » Thu Feb 15, 2018 3:47 pm

Only this topic before we take a breather for a week, so don’t miss entering. This topic is something everyone knows something about. The Week 6 topic is:

That’s right, this week is all about family. Parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, in-laws, cousins. The whole lot. Whether you see them every day, once a year, or at weddings and funerals only, family is an important part of life. They may bring great joy, and sometimes they may cause much heartache—it’s all relative.

The meaning is obvious, so there’s no need for a dictionary definition. Keep in mind, however, that the topic is RELATIVES (not the adjective "relative," as in my use at the end of the paragraph above). In other words, for this week’s topic, it is purely about family.

One word of advice before you put pen to paper (or more likely, fingers to keys). Please take care if writing about true family situations that may be sensitive to some people. If in any doubt as to whether a true story could cause distress to a relative, it would be best to go in a different direction (or change details and fictionalise it).

With that warning out of the way, have fun with the topic. You can write in any genre or style you like. You can do with the topic whatever your heart desires (bearing in mind the above), AS LONG AS SOME MEANING OF THE TOPIC, RELATIVES, IS THE MAIN FOCUS OF YOUR ENTRY ... and as long as the entry conforms to the rules.

As always, don't forget to check your word count before submitting (entries must be between 150 and 750 words). A very reliable and free online word count check tool is this one:

PLEASE, always hit the preview button to check your entry before hitting the final submit button. This is the only way to make sure your entry is uploaded correctly. This is very important, particularly if you are using HTML code for the first time. Once you have previewed your entry, close the preview page and hit the submit button.

Finally, once submitted, do a check to make sure your entry is safely in the list:

Remember, this is our last topic before a one-week break, so don’t miss out.

Love, Deb
