Re: Be a Better Writer--WHAT'S YOUR QUESTION?

Thanks, Jan. I do recognize I have strengths and weaknesses, in all areas of my life. I know I'm a grammatically tight writer, and good with dialogue, though significantly less creative than say, Sara (her muse never stops). I suppose it's good that I need help in this area, so I don't get too pride...

Re: Be a Better Writer--WHAT'S YOUR QUESTION?

Are some people's muses more active than others'? (pardon my bad grammar if I wrote it wrong) I just always seem to have trouble coming up with ideas. I'm far better at non-fiction than I am at fiction; I can write pages and pages about real experiences but the best I can do for fictional ideas is a...

Re: Be a Better Writer--INTENTIONAL ANACHRONISM

I've read some good Biblical fiction, and I've read some bad. One does need to be really careful when writing it, that's for sure. One of my best attempts was If Jesus Were Born Today... , which you featured on the front page at one point, so I know you like it. That one was also really fun t...

Re: Jan's New Writing Lessons--FREE VERSE POETRY

Okay, here goes (hopefully) something: Upon this morning's emergence from shadowed chambers The huntress stalks between my limbs Weaving starboard and port with steadied movements So dissimilar from boozed sailors as Sunlight to an abyss With dexterous stride, she precedes my entrance Into the unlit...

Re: Jan's New Writing Lessons--FREE VERSE POETRY

Jan, I didn't have a comment from you, so I don't know if you saw my last poem for the Challenge: Thoughts While Awake . Despite its clearly acrostic structure (double, actually), I still consider it in a sense a free verse poem. Curious to know your thoughts on it. Still working on the homework. I'...

Re: Suggestions for Jan

How to add descriptions without dragging down the story, especially in a scene with dialogue. Setting the scene requires some description, and introducing characters requires history, but how do you give enough while moving the plot forward?

Re: Winners for DIET

Congrats to all the winners in every category! :clap Myrna, I totally know what you mean...a month or two ago I was complaining that I hadn't placed anywhere despite all kinds of work and nice comments. This one I wrote in about an hour with no forethought - just tried to get something down on paper...

I know Amy (Sparrow) lives down that way and she might be game. She might also know of other Faithwriters who could be interested as well.

Re: Not receiving notifications

I opened a gmail account and changed my email here - the notification came straight through. Since my phone picks them up instantly, I won't forget about the account. I just hate having to manage so many accounts and passwords!

Re: Not receiving notifications

See, the thing is, I used to get them all, every time. Then all of a sudden at the end of May they stopped coming, and they were coming straight to my inbox, not my spam, anyways. :? No, I don't have an alternate email. I have tried once or twice to open another account, but inevitably I forgot abou...

Not receiving notifications

I logged in to submit my challenge article and found I had 15 new messages since the last time I logged in! No notifications were ever sent to my email to check my FW inbox. I know that was an issue during the last challenge I had entered regarding notifications of comments on entries - could it hav...

Re: Any writing groups in Tacoma, Washington?

The only other FWer I know of in Tacoma is Tiara - maybe you two can start a group! I am bummed, though, cause I lived in Tacoma for years, and moved out of the area in 2010 when I got married. Would have been fun to have another FWer around.

Re: the newest topic

There have been writers who have done "series" entries in the Challenge before, although it wasn't a good idea when entries were anonymous and peers were judging - too easy to know who it was. As long as it's new material, you're fine.
