Re: Thoughts and Stressing a point

I'm glad I saw this thread! I've been having the same debate in my head, trying to get off my own hamster wheel without much success :) Thanks for the example; it seems I have been mostly on track, which is great reassurance! Now, if only I could curb my love affair with !!!!!!s Blessings, Helen Gl...

Re: SOS! Sentence structure...period or comma???

Oh, this is so humiliating. I think I have embarassed myself enough. :sofa Thank God for that smart spell checker in Microsoft Word... Thanks again Glorybee. Such a helpful bee. In reality I had a good laugh. We have to be able to laugh at ourselves. So it's edit number...oh, who's counting? I can d...

Re: SOS! Sentence structure...period or comma???

Ok, remembered the other...may look the same but I see what may be a difference. 1. Sarah's eyes filled with tears, "I don't know what to say?" 2. Sarah's eyes filled with tears. "I don't know what to say?" 1. Alex shook his head, “No , just see that they’ve cooled off and settle...

SOS! Sentence structure...period or comma???

So confusing??? Next time I may look to pay someone for this...my rear end is suffering from all this sitting in front of computer... Is there a correct way or are both acceptable (the larger font is the area I am looking for help)? See below: 1. Reuben quickly turned to Brian and sternly addressed ...

Got one more...

I think this may be the last one to finish up on this current editing. What style do you suggest on titles, like movie and music titles, especially as they are found within quotes? For instance, "My wife talked me into watching Dancing with the Stars with her and I missed Monday Night Football....

And and Then, and spacing after period...

Back in my school days I was taught that there should be two spaces after the period at the end of a sentence. That was many years ago and I have been faithful to abide by it for the most of my life, as it pertained to the written word. I don't think that rule applies anymore. I still like it, just ...

Re: Thoughts and Stressing a point

Now I've totally confused myself. Think it's time to check out of this thread for now because I feel like I am going in circles, like my hampster on that wheel that goes round and round and round without going anywhere and making a lot of noise. Eesh. Hope to be back when I got some more wonderful i...

Re: Thoughts and Stressing a point

Starting to feel like the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz, "If I only had a brain."

Just having some fun. I have this thing that I think I am funny...don't think the verdict is totally in yet on that one...but I'm serious about the questions posed for help.

Re: Thoughts and Stressing a point

Is that the same thing because at first I thought I was being clever?

Now I don't know, may be the same thing with the redundant thingy.

I don't know. I just don't know...

Re: Thoughts and Stressing a point

Maybe instead of using terminology like, "She thought to herself" which is redundant, in those instances where a thought and stress point are combined I can say...

She said to herself, "I cannot believe this."

What say ye?

Thoughts and Stressing a point

I really like the suggestion that Glorybee gave me about using italics for thought, although I generally use italics when someone is stressing something in conversation without necessarily shouting it (exclamation marks I use for shouting). So, considering most of my characters like to talk alot (I ...

Re: A quote within a quote...and thought

Geesh, although I generally try and use correct grammar and sentence structure, I generally don't give it too much emphasis when I am just communicating, but seeing how sharp you are there I felt the pressure...oh the pressure. I can hold my own (me thinks) but not a quizz kid there. At least if I t...
