Re: Concept to Contract
:typing2 Joanne, The title holds the clue, but since the author emphasizes excellence in writing rather than publishing, I assume it could apply to both. Yes, there is a chapter that talks about contracts and one about proposals. That said, if an author is interested in writing a GOOD, marketable bo...

Are You Serious About Writing a GOOD, Publishable Book?
The "Library Journal" says this about The First Five Pages by Noah Lukeman: "Novice and amateur writers alike will benefit from...Lukeman's lucid advice." The subtitle of the book also sums up its benefits: A Writers Guide to Staying Out of the Rejection Pile . If you are serious...

Concept to Contract
Writing the Non-fiction Book: Concept to Contract by David E. Fessenden is a must read for writers who plan to publish a book. Although the book focuses on non-fiction, there's plenty of good advice for the fiction writer. The book is an easy to follow roadmap that takes you from that initial inspi...

Re: #17--A GREAT BEGINNING #2
I've been on vacation with little opportunity to write, but I do have a question. Of the following sentences, which one is correct; with comma, or without comma after "for?" He was a people person and had a great deal of respect for and to the community where he lived. He was a people pers...

:typing2 CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL WINNERS and for those who "won" simply because they took the time to submit. A big THANK YOU for those who left a yellow bar on my submission. I so appreciated your comments. They mean as much to me as winning. I also want to thank Faithwriters for making me...

Re: Should I capitalize pronouns for God?
:typing2 Hope I'm not stepping on toes here. In my opinion, serious writers who are interested in being an active part of the writing industry should follow the 'Roman' rule which was one of my mother's Golden Rules and already alluded to: When in Rome do as the Romans do. If you wish to work with a...

Re: Should I capitalize pronouns for God?
Aha! I stumbled into the truth. I KNEW it! Can a lawyer change his language? Never!
So, the name of the Merriam-Webster explainer of 'legalese' is also true, or just a name-a-like.
By the way, Congratulations. You've accomplished much.

Re: Should I capitalize pronouns for God?
Mmm...Interesting. Question: Why is nlf.net beneath your name and listed as your web site? - At least I think I read it correctly. I'm still not going to let you off the hook. :D You write like a lawyer, even if you can't claim to be one. That in itself is a laudable feat, and should be considered a...

Re: Should I capitalize pronouns for God?
Wow! Class is in session on this thread. :D Steve, please don't be insulted, but when I read your post one question popped into my head: Is there a word in the writer's market comparable to legalese found in the legal arena? Since I didn't want to misspell 'legalese' I googled it. The first answer f...

Re: Plurals and apostrophes
:typing2 That's okay, Anne. When you mentioned Strunk, you forced me to pull out a yellowing, frayed paperback copy of The Elements of Style that belonged to my son when he was in High School. To put the age of the book ( the book's age :-]) in perspective, his youngest son just graduated from High ...

If your surname is Thomas, your mailbox will read The Thomases . You will sign Christmas cards From the Thomases . Or the Thomas Tribe, if you're not sure about leaving out that incorrigible apostrophe. PLEASE do not sign, From The Thomas's . . . or The Thomas' . Please. Thank you. :D Thanks, Ann. ...

Re: None is or None are?
Logically, I think it is 'none is'--not-one-is. But English doesn't have to follow logic. What do you think? I think it depends on how 'none' is used with other words that follow. Ex. 1) None of the time is spent on playing video games. Ex. 2) None of the children are dressed warmly. Lillian :typing2
