It's important to remember that the judges have to read all the submissions, and if a lot show up right at deadline, in a month's time as well. Additionally, my guess is that the judges also read the synopsis for each entry. I'm not sure how many judges there are, or whether each judge reads all the...

As of this moment, I doubt I'll dive into next year's Page Turner, mostly because I'm not sure about writing non-fiction. I think I do fine with non-fiction essays, but I'm not sure about taking a non-fiction concept and expanding it into a book-length project. Of course, time will tell. Five months...

Hey, if you don't believe in your book, no one else will. I'm fortunate in that my job is much like the Maytag Repairman. Many days, I'm sitting around waiting for something to break, so I get a lot of idle time I can sit at the computer and write. It beats the heck out of thinking up mischie...

Speed depends on the writer, how intricate the story is, how much research is involved in it, and many other factors. When I did NaNoWriMo last year, I averaged about 2700 words per day for 22 days to complete the project. My profile has a bar graph with the word total at the end of each day. To acc...

Finish it anyway! Quite often, success in contests and in submitting isn't always an indication of quality; it's an indication of what the judges or editors were looking for at that time. Some great books were rejected many many times before finding a home, and some really lousy books were picked up...

Gosh; all I have is a farmer who wants nothing more in life than to just work his land and be left alone, but whose grandmother and aunt are priestesses from another planet.

I think I know what my next ticker will end up being. Hehe - you think you will wait that long to change it, Rick?  8) Regardless - good for you! Well, it is 5 months until the contest winner is announced, and only 2 months, 4 days until my ticker counts down. I have been kno...

Okay... I'm in...

Despite the system being very picky on what format the MS Word Document could be (doesn't like Word 97-2003) and despite my silly firewall program blocking the initial submission because (GASP!) my e-mail address was on the form (it sometimes blocks my e-mail sending), I'm finally in with a few hour...

Cool; that gives me a few hours, at least. I need to go run some errands this afternoon, and then I'll get on the computer and see what I can hammer out. I'm certainly not holding my breath, but what the heck. My chances of actually winning may not be great, but they'll be much better than if I didn...

Heh... I'll have to see if I can put together a decent synopsis this morning while at work - PLUS getting my regular column for Collector Times written so my editor doesn't go into meltdown wondering where all her writers are. If things stay quiet here at the Bomb Factory this morning, I'll see what...
