Re: Jan's New Writing Lessons--FREE VERSE POETRY
Okay, here goes (hopefully) something: Upon this morning's emergence from shadowed chambers The huntress stalks between my limbs Weaving starboard and port with steadied movements So dissimilar from boozed sailors as Sunlight to an abyss With dexterous stride, she precedes my entrance Into the unlit...

Re: Jan's New Writing Lessons--FREE VERSE POETRY
Jan, I didn't have a comment from you, so I don't know if you saw my last poem for the Challenge: Thoughts While Awake . Despite its clearly acrostic structure (double, actually), I still consider it in a sense a free verse poem. Curious to know your thoughts on it. Still working on the homework. I'...

Things....In A Hotel Lobby
You said you were going to visit that next summer and I didn't know if it'd be during the conference time, so I threw you in there.

Re: Pacific Coast Rest-Stop
Chrissy!!!!!!! Of course I remember you! I even put you in one of my FW stories way back during the colors Challenge. Good to see you again. Amy, will be praying for you and Shann. Sucks that you both keep hitting sickness walls. Thankfully we only have to deal with these bodies for...

Re: Pacific Coast Rest-Stop
A very "random" accident, Allison. Glad she's not seriously injured. :? Honestly, Rachel, I haven't looked into too many online writing courses, but Jan's Writing Basics are a huge help to really boost your skills. You can still look over the old lessons, and she's got a document that she can send w...

Re: Pacific Coast Rest-Stop

Twas a busy last two nights at work...was happy to find out that my twins lady from last week delivered naturally but the nurse that had her deserves a medal bec...

Re: Pacific Coast Rest-Stop
Ugh, Becky - the last sinus infection I had was severely severe and I ended up on antibiotics for 3.5 weeks. Not even Vicodin could touch that pain. :( Hope you feel better soon. Shann, you would be a great doula with your nursing experience! I probably could make a lot of money doing it around here...

Re: Pacific Coast Rest-Stop
I made it into the Challenge just under the wire, and mine will be SUPER easy to spot as soon as you read it, but since we don't have volunteer judges anymore, I don't have to worry about my friends knowing it's me. I wrote it in just two hours, so it probably could be better, but I am trying ...

Re: Suggestions for Jan
How to add descriptions without dragging down the story, especially in a scene with dialogue. Setting the scene requires some description, and introducing characters requires history, but how do you give enough while moving the plot forward?

Re: Pacific Coast Rest-Stop
She was only a couple months younger than me. And she had normal health before she suddenly got sick and ended up with heart failure. Kind of scary, if you think about it. I know we know something could happen to us anytime, but it really hits home when it's someone so close to your age. :( We got a...

Re: Pacific Coast Rest-Stop
Three days of rest did me good and I kicked it with vitamins and sleep. Already worked two more nights, although last night I stayed until 9:30am just finishing up my charting because I was so stinkin' busy on my shift. Had a fairly nice all-natural delivery that went really badly about an hour afte...

Re: Pacific Coast Rest-Stop
Hey all. I know you probably haven't missed me, but I'm still lurking although I was too wiped out to post yesterday. All the lack of sleep (because I can't sleep at night) during my vacation finally caught up with me and although I made it through two nights of work just as soon as we got ba...

Re: Pacific Coast Rest-Stop
Pup did a good job on the dairy-free fudge.
Loving it!
That's all to say now...we gabbed, we ate dinner, everyone's tired and I especially have not slept for a long time so I'm bowing out. Will write more tomorrow when I have more energy.

Re: Pacific Coast Rest-Stop
Aw, man, I missed the birth stories discussion, but only because I was LIVING IT! Three 12-hour shifts and four radically different labor/delivery stories. This morning's was probably the best, though. Planned homebirth turned induction for baby's sake, and managed to keep both doctor and pat...

Re: Pacific Coast Rest-Stop
It's too bad you can't come this year, Rachel. It's going to be much further away the next 2, possibly 3 years. You can do the Google chat thing that Amy & Shari are setting up...see thread in the conference forum. And I still am open for a roommate Thursday & Friday night, just in case... Ta...
