When will you listen to me?
If you won't show me you love me
I'm gonna drive off in my S-U-V!"
Doesn't it sound like a bad Country song?
Yep, it sure seems like he's a-hankerin' for her love (or is that "luv"?).
For the Country music impaired among us, let's take a stab at paraphrasing the sentiments expressed above.
Apparently this gentleman feels that he must do something to impress her, and feels he has been making efforts in this area for some time now. Perhaps he feels inferior in some way, or is guilty about past misadventures.
Also, it seems that he has made repeated entreaties, seemingly to no avail.
He needs evidence of her affections, not just words.
And, finally, he is nearing the end of his patience, and may soon depart, giving up on the situation.
Of course, we are not acquainted with the lovely lass he is addressing, or her reactions and emotions.
Maybe she has already accepted him, whatever he brings to the relationship.
And perhaps she always listens to him; he just doesn't hear her replies, or see the plentiful evidence that she loves him.
We have no idea how she feels about having such a threat levied at her, but she might wonder if rejection is soon to come her way, mixed with exhaust fumes.
I wonder how God feels when we sing such a chorus to Him?
