If you are privileged enough to own a feline, you know they are very independent creatures. They can take you or leave you. Cats may come when you call or totally ignore you. That is, of course, until their food bowl is empty. Hunger is a very powerful thing to them. They become your best friends. Cozying up next to you, rubbing you and speaking volumes to get you to notice “The Empty Dish.” Their hunger drives them to take on a whole new persona. It’s amazing to behold.
Our reactions to them are no less amazing. When they come to us, all loving and cuddly, we rush to see what all the fuss is about. We see that they are surely in distress, and in great danger of starving to death even though they just ate the last bit of food less than five minutes ago. But, because of our great love for them, we drop whatever we are doing to make sure that our precious child is well fed. It’s amazing to behold.
God reacts to our hunger for Him in the same way. When we believe we are full, we tend to ignore God. We can take Him or leave Him. We may come when He calls, or we may totally ignore Him. That is, of course, until we become spiritually empty. Our hunger then drives us to seek God with all we have within us. We praise, worship, fast and proclaim our undying love and adoration for Him and Him alone. We cozy up to Him, and speak to Him as we never have before to get Him to notice our “Empty Dish.” It’s amazing to behold.
The Father’s reaction is no less amazing. When we come to Him empty and longing to be filled He rushes to feed us. He sees that we are surely in distress, even though we were walking around in our own strength and doing our own thing before our dish became empty. But, because of His great and powerful love for us, He stops whatever He is doing to make sure that His precious children are well fed. True to His promise, our Father nourishes our hunger. Our dish is no longer empty, and it’s truly amazing to behold.
