In my studies at a Christian university, there was a very interesting class one night in which we discussed the many theories to prove God. One theory, and I can't remember the exact name of the theory, used an example that I found to be just mind-blowing. This is it. If you're walking in a field and you find a watch, you notice it has hands which move. Then, let's say you take it apart and you notice all the intricate parts which make all put together make it work. Take one of those parts out and it doesn't work. So, you must conclude someone made it. It didn't just fall into place and become a watch. There was a watchmaker.
Now, look at a human being. We are far more complex than a watch with billions more intricacies which don't even begin to compare to a watch. As a scientist, one couldn't deduce the watch fell into place so as to "make" itself. It's too complex. So, it stands to reason that a human life didn't just fall into being and "make" itself thereby proving the existence of a higher being or God.
Here's a synopsis of an article I read in a popular psychology magazine which was trying to discredit belief in God, but actually (in my mind anyway) proved the existence of God. The writer said that our minds are designed in such a way that we must believe in a higher power or existence of God and that's why we believe in God. The writer said it's not that He actually exists, but that we're designed to believe He does. Did you catch it? I did. It's the word "designed." The writer is disproving his own case my stating that there is a designer and to me, if the designer wants us to believe in a God, then the designer must be God.
And, I don't believe that atheists are really atheists. They are really just hurting people trying to run from God trying not to believe in Him. It's the agnostics, the ones who believe in a higher being or beings that are toughest to crack. You hear about more atheists who are so troubled about NOT believing in God that they try to disprove His existence and in their efforts, prove themselves wrong. Ironic, isn’t it? So, the next time you’re faced with someone who says science doesn’t allow for proof of God, think of the watch.
