What does it mean to experience the peace that surpasses all understanding? It means experiencing the peace of Christ even in the midst of our trials and difficulties. Sometimes, life and the circumstances it presents (unemployment, sickness, financial problems, etc.) can leave us feeling anxious, uptight, and emotionally drained. We need to remember that in the Bible, the words "Do not be afraid" appear 365x -- that's once for every day of the year! This means God wants us to know that we don't ever have to be afraid because He is with us every day. He has sent Jesus to give us the victory over everything and to bring us the peace that surpasses all understanding.

When we are experiencing trials and tribulations, it is very easy to become caught up in our daily cares. Sometimes it is very difficult to surrender our fears and anxieties. This can especially be true when a particular trial has gone on for a long period of time. We must hold fast to our faith, and remember that as God's Word promises, "This too shall pass". We need to remember to focus on Jesus rather than on our own problems. We must remember that God is in control of our situation(s).

I have always loved Phillipians 4:6 --"Dismiss all anxiety from your minds, and present your needs to God in every form of prayer and in petitions full of gratitude, and then God's own peace which is beyond all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." On a personal note, this verse became especially dear to my heart when I saw Rebecca St. James (my favorite Christian singer) for the first time in concert last year. After the concert, Rebecca signed my CD, and she wrote Phillipians 4:6 on the CD cover. God really touched my heart with that and showed me that I need to trust Him more by surrendering all of my cares to Him and never holding onto my worries.

May we all continue to surrender all of our cares to Jesus, in Whose Name we have the victory, knowing that He will give us the peace that surpasses all understanding when we focus on Him rather than our problems.

Surrender is the true answer. Without it peace can never arrive.

How strange we humans are - to hold on to something as wicked as worry when peace is at hand! God is so gracious. :)
