Jesus, you are the one I owe the most to. You gave all you had for me. You didn’t back down. I was never unworthy to you. You followed through on all your promises to save me. I don’t deserve what you did for me. My sin put you through so much. The pain you took for me, the beatings, torture and torment, completed by you bloodied body on the cross. Yet, you loved me all the way so that I can spend eternity with you. How can I ever thank you.
Grandma, you have shown me a life that is an example to follow. You are my hero to learn from. In your 94 years, your knees are worn out from praying everyday at your bedside. You’re many prayers for each and every person, family member, friend and situations that arise. You never failed to let this be an everyday habit. You were faithful to pray before every meal. Your hard work every day of you life has given you a strong body. You always gave of your home and time to others. Somehow, through dark times in your life you had the spirit of rejoicing on your heart. You always made going to church a priority. I thank you for showing me the Proverbs 31 woman.
Dad, there are many stories of your kindness to strangers and to others. You gave a total stranger the coat off your back, because she was in the rain without one. You are willing to give of your time, helping elderly neighbors, by building railings and other project to make their lives easier and you do not expect anything in return. You were willing to show me mercy with your love when I was a rebellious teenager. I appreciate you so much for that.
Shannon, this week I came to admire you as a hero. You have become a witness to your family. This week on Wednesday you turned 12. My choir practice would interfere in your birthday evening. I would not be able to sing on Sunday morning at church if I missed practice. I asked you, “What is more important?” Not really wanting to know an answer from you, but you replied, “God is.” You are showing me how just to let your life be a witness.
My heroes come through many people and many ages. Mostly, the attitudes and actions of all my heroes reflect the qualities of who Jesus is.
