I really can’t designate one hero in my life, because I have had many.
God is my hero, first and foremost, because He watches over me and
protects me 24 hours a day.
Then there was Susie. She offered to pay my tuition to college. Her only pay would be I would agree to work in the mission field for one year following graduation. My dad wouldn’t let me accept her offer, but I was always grateful to her for offering.
Then there was my oldest brother Burt, seven years my senior, who did his best to keep me on the straight and narrow when I was growing up. I resented that at the time, but appreciated it as I grew older. When I developed a proclivity for writing as I matured he was always there with words of encouragement.
The list grows. Rev. Myers always found the good in me when many didn’t.
Now, as I enter what some might call the sunset of my life (but what do
they know), my friends are my heroes. When I call my girl friend long
distance the smile in her voice tells me she’s glad I called. When I call
my girlfriend locally her cheerful voice tells me she, too, is glad I called.
So, what it comes down to, what is a hero? Anything you make it to be.
