Topic: Betrayal (02/16/04)

As no man is perfect, I have found that those I love most are also the ones whose betrayal is most painful. My parents, my spouse, my best friends, and even my children, have all let me down in some way. But none could betray me as much as Iíve betrayed my own self. I always heard and never fully comprehended the saying, ďBe true to thine own self." ...
that is, at least, not until I looked at the reflection in my mirror and saw the image of one betrayed with a kiss.

He is my parent,
My husband,
My best friend,
And my brother;
He is the great I Am.
Like the Christ,
There is no other
Who can take me
By the hand,

And lead me gently
Beside still waters --
That I can trust
To never let me down;
Who will give me,
Despite the roads
Iíve traveled,
My own jeweled
And golden crown.

Heíll never leave me,
Nor forsake me;
Heís there
Every time I call.
He picks me up
When even I betray me;
Yes, even every time
I fall.

Hosea 2:19
And I will betroth thee unto me for
ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in
righteousness, and in judgment, and in
lovingkindness, and in mercies.

I like the way the text is presented, visually. It makes for a fun read.

The content is strong, and generally positive! What a switch from most of the other entries I have read thus far. Can't blame them, though...it's not exactly an uplifting topic. No one likes to betray/be betrayed.

One thing puzzles me...you looked into the mirror and saw Jesus? Maybe I didn't read it right, or maybe that's what you are trying to say.

Either way, it is a very good post. Top 5 for me, so far. Good work, thanks for posting it.

THIS is why we trust no one else with our whole heart and soul...least of all ourself! Clever poem. :)

I once read that until you realize Jesus is all you need, you will never be satisfied. What unbearable pressure we put on those we love when we expect them to do for us what only Jesus can do.
