Paul said in Romans that the Spirit speaks with “unutterable groaning.” We may not understand what he is saying, but we know he is whispering something. It is at those times when we must be quiet and listen very closely.

Several years back during my military years I was particularly troubled in my spirit about something and decided to fast and pray. During my lunch hour I went to the base chapel and found it quite empty; which is what I hoped for. I had been there for some time and was praying for direction when a woman came in and distracted me. I kept praying but something was wrong. I was praying for direction and I couldn’t get her out of my mind. I didn’t know why.

I didn’t know her, neither had I seen before, but I was praying and I knew God was there with me so I just started to pray for her. Not long after I heard him softly speak to my heart and tell me to go pray with her.

Folks, I desperately struggled with this. I’m married and was alone in a place with a woman. I was very concerned with the setting and even more so about the aftermath. Call me whatever you like, but dealing with these things are the reality of society today. Innocence is no longer implied, it must be proven and even then questions remain. When I got past that I noticed she was praying and decided not to interrupt her… but God’s gentle murmurs were constant, “Go pray with her.” And so I did.

I approached her and told her that when she walked in God immediately put her on my heart. A broad, but gentle smile formed on her face and she then briefly told me her story.

“I was wondering if God loved me anymore. Now I know he does, because he sent someone to tell me.” Wow.

Time was becoming a constraint, so we prayed and encouraged each other to trust the Lord.

Sometime ago while writing a song that experience came to mind.

“Lord, I’ve been fasting this day.”
“That you might show me, show me your way.”
“But instead you said go pray for another, for she is in need.”
“So at your command I’ll do as you will.”

“Your grace is sufficient for me.”
“You know of I need.”
“Your grace is sufficient for me.”
“Your word is all that I need.”

when we are honest about our struggles, satan no longer has the victory over us. you found God's grace and were able to encourage one of His children.
