The crowds cheering the pumping adrenaline
The smell of the rawhide in a glove
The dirt flying up as I dive for the ball
These are the things of my youth
Two granddaughters laughing and a pumping oxygen bottle
The smell of rubbing alcohol and foot cream
Throw pillows falling as I collapse on the couch
These are the things of my mid-life
My bride has been there through it all
Whether diving for the ball or the couch
She cheers just as loud and just as long
These have been the things of my life
There has never been a time she went her own way
My dreams became her dreams my hopes her hopes
We uprooted our lives when my career called
Through it all she loved, served and continued
Jesus taught us that true love serves
The Savior Himself served us with His death
Because of His great sacrifice and love
We are called by His name Christians
When we were young she took my name
That’s the way things are done
Considering her love and her sacrifice
I think maybe it’s time I took hers
