Blessed
Hello ! My name is Ron Kerst and this is why I am blessed.
It was February 9,2000,somewhere around 9:00 P.M.
I started having what I thought was heartburn.
I told my wife Yolanda,"Honey,This heartburn is killing me!"
Little did I know that the events within the next 30 minutes
were going to be so crucial.
Yolanda told me to take a couple of Alka-seltzer's,so I did
but that heartburn just wouldn't go away.
I am kind of a worry wart anyway,so I started pacing the floor.
I told Andy (Yolanda),This Alka-seltzer isn't working!
I found some heartburn medication and took some ,no relief.
I went and put on my coat and told Andy, "Take me to the hospital!"
(We live in a small town and the nearest hospital is about 16 miles away)
I walked out to the car and told Andy she would have to drive
then I popped a piece of chewing gum into my mouth and
away we went.
About half way,I started feeling very sick and my jaw hurt so bad
that I couldn't chew my gum.
I told Andy to hurry up,and the poor thing was driving as fast as she could
then it happened...
I lost control of everything,my stomach,my bladder,and bowels,
all at the same time..then I went out like a light.
When I came to,there were police cars surrounding our car,
lights flashing, sirens blarring, then I asked Andy,Have we been in a wreck?
I looked down and said,"Oh yeah! Now I remember I was sick"
Yolanda had given me mouth to mouth and revived me.
I forgot to mention Yolanda is a C.N.A.

I looked down at myself and the mess I had made, and I felt
sorry that I put Yolanda through this.
The officers had called an ambulance and soon I was the center of attention.
The paramedics placed me in the back of the ambulance
and began to work on me. My blood pressure was too low
and they were having a problem trying to get a pulse reading.

Finally I was taken the rest of the way to hospital.
Once in the E.R. there were many people in there working on me,
One getting blood, others poking at my arms, and still
the Dr's putting nitro under my tongue.

Soon the Dr.said,Ron you've had a Heart Attack.
We will be sending you to Champaign Illinois to another Hospital.
I look around the room,There was my family,my friends
and I was scared ,So I asked my Sister to pray with me.

I was sent to Champaign, where the Staff took great care of me.
I had a stent placed into my Right Coronary Artery.
It seems I have had a heart attack in the past and this artery
was already making it's own by-pass.

In closing,I will say this,Yes,I am blessed, little did I know that
I really did marry an ANGEL..
This whole experience has brought me closer to God
it was a wake-up call,to show me how fragile our lives our.

In 2001 Yolanda was awarded a plaque through
the American Heart Associations,Life Savers Day,
at the Illinois State Governors Mansion.
For saving my life.

God Bless Her! I am Blessed!
