Topic: Rejection (11/15/04)

TITLE: All for the Love of Self
By Mitzi Busby

As Americans, our society has rejected Your commands in favor of rules made by man. We are more concerned with the outward washing of our hands rather than the inner purifying of our hearts. We have not held to Your truths, but honored only those commandments which we choose. We honor You with our lips, yet our hearts are far away.

We have created our own “holiness” with works and legalism. So many have cast away Your statutes and refused to accept or believe. We have a higher regard for ourselves than for the One, True, Living, Almighty God.

Please do not give up on us, Father. Please draw us to You once again. Let us honor You, and not the vanities of man. Let us exalt You, and turn from our misguided ways.

When I want to do good, I don’t, and when I try not to do wrong, I do it anyway (Rom. 7:19 NLT).

There is a difference between having a spirit that seeks Him, but fails at times, and having a rebellious spirit. Daniel prayed for seven years for a rebellious people. He kept seeking God on behalf of the nation.

It humbles me to know that I am also a sinner saved by grace. Our righteousness is but filthy rags. If I do not realize how wretched I am, then He is not on the throne of my life. (Rev. 3:17)

Paul said, “I am quite happy about [my weakness] . . . for when I am weak, then I am strong – the less I have, the more I depend on Him” (2 Corinthians 12:10 LB).

Father, please turn the hearts of the people to You. Please, stir us up once again to follow You wholeheartedly. Let us humble ourselves, turn from our wickedness and seek You. Send Your rain and purify us with Your holy fire. Let Your will be done, knowing Your way are not our ways. Please, help us to turn from self-seeking ways and pride, for it is not of You. Let us unify as one people “Under God.” Break the walls of division built by denominations and race to give us oneness in Your Spirit.

“I pledge allegiance to the Lamb,
With all my heart,
With all I am.
I will seek to honor his commands.
I pledge allegiance to the Lamb.”
Ray Boltz

My heart aches for our people. It is 15 minutes until midnight in the Spirit. I can almost hear the trumpet blowing. There are so many wanting to fill a void, if only they would fill it with Jesus.

Your paragraph starting "Father, please..." would make a great prayer standing by itself. Good job! Thank you for sharing this.

A real prayer of repentence and hope! I felt stirred by your words.

Amen! A very moving prayer, Mitzi, and what an encouragement to us as you put words to our deepest feelings. God is stirring up His people, for as you so elequently state, "It is 15 minutes until midnight in the Spirit," and we all must be about our Father's work. Well-done!

How important it is for us to pray for our country, and for our people! Thanks for the stirring exhortation. Very timely.

A big AMEN in agreement with you, Mitzi. God bless you.

We all have to just stop pointing fingers and repent individually... every last one of us... especially those who feel they have no reason to repent. It's a prayer I've said for myself alone... AND for those I love, those who are my enemies, and those whom I don't even know. You've outlined our need to seek His counsel so perfectly. This article is straight-to-the-heart on target. Very, very well said. Those who seek to save their life will lose it, and those will lose their idealism... well, let's just say it's easier said than done. Self is the toughest thing to let go of, and the most necessary thing to do if we're to survive for the long haul... that trumpet sound.

This is a wonderful piece. I too get overwhelmed with the rejection of the only true cure to what ails this country.

Wonderful. I agree in Jesus name. May His will be done in my life, in America, in the earth...Thanks for a heartfelt, powerful argument to turn away from self and back to God.
