Food is the means for survival of any being to achieve the end. It is not very easy to give up practically. In fact many of us live only for food and we earn and save only for future food for us and for our families. Food is so easy and in reach for us that not even a day can we afford to live without it. Imagine those who do not have enough food to fill their stomachs. There is nothing we can do about that but in our own little ways we can do our part indirectly.
We waste so much of food one way or the other. Food is God; we should not waste it. If possible, give the food to the hungry. The greatest gift one can ever give to any hungry person is Food. It cannot be replaced by anything. Hunger kills the spirit of a hungry person without food. His life doesn’t mean anything to him until his hunger is satisfied. Food is life. Next comes the fulfilment of necessities and other comforts.
We are all one irrespective of the countries we belong to. Nationalities and personalities may differ, but the principle of the soul is one and the same in all. We can experience bliss only when we render service keeping in mind the unity of all beings. Though a person is millionaire or a pauper, the hunger inside of him is the same. The hands that serve are holier than the lips that pray. So let us all do our part in providing food at least to a few hungry people. We can replace a Christmas gift by providing some food to such persons besides giving great gifts to our friends and families who can afford it. Leave the rest to god or pray to him to bless the whole of humanity and other living beings on the earth with food. God is the only one who can satisfy their hunger all their lives. As Mahatma Gandhi said, "There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread."
