“Simply Come”

Throughout history the Good Lord has,
Provided for men to eat,
Food to provide them sustenance,
Their daily needs to meet.

In the desert, Manna fell from heaven
But many were not satisfied
They wanted all the things they missed
And many gave up, and cried.

In the gospels, Jesus did perform
Miracles to show God’s way.
Five leaves and fish were multiplied
To feed the crowds that day.

But many of them still turned away
Unconvinced, too blind to see,
That Jesus came to give us life,
He came to set to set them free.

Earthly food will not assuage
The hunger that we feel,
For the spiritual food He gives to us,
Is not like any meal.

“Come unto me,” the Good Lord said,
If you really want God’s Will.
Hunger and thirst for righteousness
For His love for you can fill.

The Good Lord bids you simply “Come”
To receive the bread of life,
For the food He gives, will set you free
from your pain and sin and strife.

So come to Jesus just as you are.
Reach out to receive His love.
And He’ll satisfy your endless quest
with precious gifts from above.

By Marcell Billinghurst

Blessed are those who hunger
and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.

Wonderful poem Marcell. I read poems and wish I could write 'em, but realise I should just leave them to masters like yourself!

What a wonderful word "Come" when it flows from Heaven's lips. He WILL always satisfy.

Yes Denise, and for the benefit of others who may read this poem, I did mean loaves and fishes, not leaves and fishes. I do not know how I missed that one. Thanks for the critiques.

This was very heartfelt and biblically sound. You may want to cut a few words here and there and restructure your phrases to make it flow better. God bless, Karri

Marcel, great job. It seems we were on the same wavelength almost.

Man is never satisfied, but He still invites us to come to Him. Good poem. Thanks for sharing.

Marcell,
Lovely poem! I was just thinking about ths very thing today. Spiritual food keeps us from starving, but like manna from heaven, we need to partake of it daily! The banquet table is open and ready to feed and nourish us. Nicely done. :0) ~LG~
