Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them, saying:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Matthew 5: 1-3 (NIV)

Happy and exceedingly blessed,
Is he who chooses to rest,
In God Most High
And dares not try
To make it on his own.

To be envied is the man,
Who in his humility commits his plan,
To the sovereign Lord;
The Almighty God
Calls the kingdom of heaven his own.

Full of joy in this life,
Free from all traces of strife,
Is he who depends
On God’s providence.
Jehovah takes care of his own.

Soul-satisfied is he,
Who finds his pleasure in Thee.
Bowing down lowly,
He gives You all the glory,
And You exalt him—the timing Your own.

God pours on His favor,
Come taste, oh come and savor.
Be humbled under His mighty hand;
Apart from Him you cannot stand;
But fear not, he never forsakes His own.
