Have you ever heard God laugh?
Do they tell jokes in Heaven
About the time two believers tried to screw in a lightbulb?
Or knock-knock who's there?
Or how hot is it?
I have, so many times.
He laughs at my antics,
When I attempt to be god.
Ruling my life from my own throne
Convincing myself it’s me alone!
He smiles at my giving,
Those rare times that selfishness died.
When I thought of others before myself
And gave until I had spent
All He had provided.
He holds His sides
And grasps for air
When I share my favorite corny joke…
What did the snail say when he was riding on the back of the turtle?
….Wheeeeee-e-e-e-e!
He quietly whinces, possibly grimaces
When I step out, way ahead of His grace.
Trip all over myself
Falling flat on my face.
Then chuckles at my spit-fire determination
To never do it again.
I wonder, does He roll His eyes at me and bite His tongue
When He could easily say, “I told you so.”
After the stupid things I have done?
No matter what, He is always there
When I cry,
When I doubt.
When I worry
When I pout!
He hears it all.
Clicks His tongue and shakes His head.
Offers His hand, picks me up, dusts me off and
once again
when I finally set out…to simply obey
For that is all that truly makes
That is how I make
His day!
