Imagine God, having the power to create whatever he desired, creating reasons to laugh. He created the heavens and the earth. He created the sun, the stars and the moon. He created water, air and all the molecules that make up life. He created a way, through human beings, to reproduce himself. He created rain and snow. He created flowers and fruit trees. He created insects, even spiders. He created whales and elephants.
So imagine God, when he planned his physical creation. How he designed the monkey, one of his humorous creation, with those long arms. He also designed other things in his creation with many humorous details. God, by master design, evinces laughter through many of our experiences. Take for instance a personal trial I was dealing with. After six months of struggle I finally surrendered the problem fully to God. I declare to you, I heard God laugh and say, "This could have been resolved months ago, if you had only let go, sooner.
God created the spring, summer, fall and winter. Into every life he created a reason to laugh. Humor is about finding a reason to laugh. God's gift of laughter is a free gift, for every day brings many reasons to laugh. Laughter is one of the best gifts God has given to us. Think about it. There is nothing like a good old laugh that brings tears to the eyes, along with some side ripping cramps.
Did God create laughter? I think not. Laughter is not a created thing. Laughter is because God is. Laughter is one expression of who God is. God created humor giving us opportunities to express our capacity for laughing. Laughter, itself, is an ability, a gift of God. Because of laughter, I think about just how awesome and adorable my God is.
