“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Matthew 6:33
We were designed to achieve God’s will on earth as it is in Heaven. That’s our job. That’s all of our jobs. We were specifically designed to love God and love others. When we are not accomplishing this task, our lives suffer.
There is a constant conflict between the flesh and the spirit. Our selfish desires consistently butt heads with our desire to please God. But, we can never have it both ways. If God is to reign in our lives, we must put to death the deeds of the body: our own selfish desires. If we are to be of use to God, we must realize our shape in His design and abide by His rules and not the ones we made up.
When we become lazy and do not pursue God’s will and instead focus on pleasing our flesh, we become unsatisfied. When we live for ourselves and for the things that make us happy, we will constantly be seeking and never finding. We will simply not know joy. We were designed to worship God in our actions and in our speech. We were not designed to please ourselves. Working in the Cause of Christ will bring pleasure, but it is godly pleasure, true pleasure, lasting pleasure.
· A disciple knows his design and abides in that design
Application: In what ways have I denied the design that God has set before me? Am I trying to worship God and myself and who is winning?
