Don’t you hate it when you haven’t washed your car for a while and there is a thin coating of dust on it? You think it doesn’t look too bad at first glance so you let it go for one more day. Then the clouds roll in and you know it’s going to happen. Sure enough the clouds sprinkle down a few drops of rain, but not enough to clean your car. Those few drops of rain expose the filth on your car. The muddy water spots reveal to everyone exactly how dirty your car really is.
It would have been so much better if there were a cleansing rain. A rain that didn’t only reveal the filth of the car, but actually cleaned it making its shine and luster show again. Of course we don’t want so much rain that it floods and carries our cars away, just enough to clean our cars and the world around us.
Have you ever noticed how God’s truth is like the rain He created? Sometimes we believe that the dirt (sin) of our lives isn’t obvious to anyone. But then a sprinkle of God’s truth reveals exactly how filthy we really are. We have a choice, we can continue to live our lives of sin, or we can ask Him for His cleansing rain.
His truth convicts us of our condition. What we do with that conviction is up to us. Will we ask for His cleansing rain or will we wait for the flood of His justice to wash us away?
