Topic: Rain (09/07/04)

TITLE: The Rain Book - Dr. Suess Style
By Lynda Lee Schab

Rain. Rain. I hear the rain.
It's drumming on my window pane.
I hear it spit
I hear it spatter
I hear the rain go pitter-patter.

Rain. Rain. I hear the rain.
I hear the rain go down the drain.
I hear the rain in the street,
I hear the rain like little feet.

I hear it tapping on my roof.
I hear the rain go poof-poof-poof…
I hear it knocking on my door
I love the rain…oh, more, more more!

I love to listen to the rain
I love it on my window pane.
I love rain when I'm at the park,
I love it when I'm in the dark.

I love it when I'm in the car,
I love it eating a chocolate bar.
I love rain when I'm on a boat
I love it when I go to vote.

I love it when I exercise,
I love it when I'm swatting flies.
I love rain when it's nice and quiet,
I love it when I'm on a diet.

No matter when or where it falls,
I love the raindrops…love them all.
I am so glad God gave me rain
That splashes on my window pane

He sends the rain to wash away
the dirt and stains we see today.
God sent his Son to do the same
And that is why Jesus came.

He was the gentle, cleansing rain
That washed away my sin and shame.
He made me fresh, He made me new
And He can do the same for you

Rain. Rain. I love the rain
I love it on my window pane.
I hear it drip. I hear it drop.
I do not want the rain to stop.

I love the rythmn of this poem-It is Dr.Suess like but it is also rain like.
Melanie Kerr 09/13/04
Dr Suess would be envious! You have produced a lovely peom with a simple rhythm and the last few verses about what Jesus has done for us completes it well.

Very creative! Needs some artist to draw pictures! (Something to read to my grandkids)

Awesome, Lynda! I never liked Dr. Seuss as a kid, but I think you've succeeded at making me a fan now! Great job!
Al Boyce09/13/04
Loved the way the poem echoed the sound of raindrops.

Lynda, I am ashamed to say, I may be the only person on earth who never read anything by Dr. Suess! However, if he writes like you, he has got to be a winner. Great poem; I ran outside and turned the hose on, holding it up in the air and enjoyed the sprinkle with you. Rub-a dub-dub…a fat man in the tub, oh…sorry for digressing!

Lynda, I usually don't get very excited over poetry. I know of Dr. Suess, but never became very familiar with any of it.

But your poem....wow! In my mind, I was experiencing it throughout. Bobbi

One boat, two boat,
red boat, blue boat.
Now I end this with a new vote!
Great job. Loved the poem and Dr. Seuss.

Rain Rain can be a pain
When in a basement - a stopped up drain
A sputtering gutter by the name of Wayne
And dripping ceilings - umbrella's obtain

Rain - Rain - Rain
A liquid stretchy elastic
a wet and gooey wastic
rain - pain - nastic.

I think I just created the Anti-Rain critique.

Brilliant Suessian dialogue with some great visuals. Yea!!!

Glenn :-)

LOVED IT, LYNDA! Every writing course should include reading some Dr. Seuss. Children adore repetition, especially if it is silly. Dr. S. is a cool cat in a funny hat...and that's all I have to say about THAT.
JAMES DALY09/17/04
Could you be the next Dr. Seuss?
Beth Muehlhausen06/22/05
Very, very tricky to mimic Dr. Seuss! Very, very effective I might add. :-)

Lynda, this is a true delight! I love Dr. Suess, and you've written one as good as any he ever wrote!
