Topic: Rain (09/07/04)

Romans 8:28 -- And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

The rain pounded the glass with a will to gain entrance to the storm-battered house -- horizontal bullets, frenzied by the wind. The window seemed to bend in its struggle to resist the lashing.

Streams of water fled to the corners of each window pane, transparent fingers beseeching ... what? To escape the wind? Or to find a way inside?

When God sends storms raging in our lives, our tendency is to put up the shutters, batten down the hatches and ride them out.

Like storm windows, we often resist efforts to pry into our inner selves. We prefer the invitations of a sunny day to the insistence of a storm -- even when both come from the same God.

Winds of adversity can be winds of opportunity.

Like farmers anxiously tending our crops, we may feel threatened to see a cloud of insects on the horizon -- locusts intent on devouring our crops! But if we stay our hand (and our pesticides) long enough, we may find they are honey bees, bent only on pollination.

Brief and to the point - so much said with so few words.
Well done - loved it!
Blessings, Lynda

Al, great piece. Short and to the point. No more needed to be said. Loved this line:

"Winds of adversity can be winds of opportunity."

How true is that? Great job! ~Mary

Well said! How often do we miss the Honey Bees because we pull back from adversity?

I love the way that there are so many sides to something. I have never thought of rain as "transparent fingers beseeching" trying to get in. It was a whole new way of looking at things. I like that. Rain to me as always been some powerful creature that would never run, you made it seem different. Great view for me and I liked it. Thanks!

Hello, Al!!

This is truly a great line: "Winds of adversity can be winds of opportunity."

The wind that drives the storm powers the sailing vessel. Your material is always a joy to read.

The "winds of adversity" line is my favorite as well. Though, as always, your writing is 'all good'.

You are correct, Al. What looks like insects from afar may WELL be Honeybees. You definitely have some insight going for you! Very well done.

Al this is a great piece and you are right sometimes the things that we see coming and dread turn out to be great blessings.
