It’s been at least a hundred years,
But the best I can recall
By the time I made it to high school
I thought I knew it all
I learned to get by on little sleep
Yet stay awake all day
And it’s best to do your homework
Before you start to play.
Studying hard was expected
Except from lettered athletes
A winning score on Friday night
Outshone intellectual feats.
If I didn’t do my homework
Then the teacher called on me
But every time I studied
She always let me be.
Just because someone’s popular
Doesn’t mean she’s all that nice.
And seventeen is not too old
To heed your parents’ advice.
I took the tests, I made good grades,
And year after year crept past.
On graduation day I cried,
“Thank God, I’m free at last!”
Although it seemed it’d never end
School didn’t last forever
But if you ask if I’d go back,
I’d have to say, “No, never!”
