The Art Of Deception

The art of deception, may start at conception
and continue throughout all your life
but the results you find, will continue to bring,
nothing but trouble and strife.
For when you start out with a plan in your head,
with greed or lust to deceive.
The truth you will find, will soon find you out,
with the consequence you will receive
the loss of trust, of family and friends
and those you set out to impress;
for the art of deception brings its own results,
in the loss of faith and distress.
When the folk that you knew have turned away,
to someone in whom they can trust
and the dreams of success you planned to bring,
are reduced to sorrow and dust.

So if you would win, don’t follow the crowd,
or the folk that you read in the news,
who bear the results of scandal and lust
and practice deception, they’ll lose.
For though they think that no one will know,
the truth will one day be found
and deception will bring its own results,
when their dreams are dashed to the ground.
Instead build your life on integrity,
with honesty and faith from above
and truth will bring you the greatest reward,
with the people you know and love.
As they see the results of honesty,
they’ll know in whom to believe,
when they turn to you in love and trust,
knowing truth is what they’ll receive.

This is a beautiul poem with a moving rhythm that just fits the theme. I like "The truth you will find, will soon find you out." Blessings.

I read the poem twice out loud and stumbled on the same two places, may just be me but here they are: throughout all your life reads better either through all your life or throughout your life. The second sentence is a fragment. Each time I read “the dreams of success” I had to stop and reread, as if there were too many syllables to match the rhythm. The poem had a good rhythm and good rhyme I enjoyed it very much. It also had a lot of truth in it. Good job.

I am inclined to agree with Sheila about the rhythm at times being hard to maintain. I love the word selection for the rhyming sentences. Yhe overall message is very encouraging.

I love poetry
Not every poet write the same.
Not every poet rhymes the same.
That's why poetry is so diverse.
If it were all written alike...how boring it would become.
You message came through very clear!

It is well done, flows well if read aloud; but would be better were a space left between each couplet.

Great poem with an even greater message. Well done. Nice rhythm and rhyme. Yeah could use a bit of tightening, but is altogether very good. I enjoyed it. Blessings!

Kewl beans--it is so true--the honesty we sow will reap trust in return! It may not always be easy, but all things worth while must be worked at! Great poem!
