It has always been my propensity to try to understand why people behave the way they do. I developed this at a very early age while in grade school. The class bully was an enigma that I couldn’t resist. I remember him well for he was the kid who got the most attention.

I was scared of this particular boy...his name was Billy...and I never went near him. He would fight with the other boys and say mean things to the girls. I have since come to realize that bullies are people with special needs...unmet needs that causes them to resort to force and coercion to get what they want.

I don’t know whatever happened to Billy...he dropped out of school when he was sixteen and I lost track of him. I have however, known many Billy’s over the years and have seen some go on to lead successful, productive lives. The thing that had to change however was the method they used to fulfill their needs.

This is a life lesson, for we all have our little peculiarities and character defects that we can choose to live with or change. It takes much more courage to first of all admit that we have an area in our life that needs changing and then to proceed to change.

The bullies who remain that way all of their lives are the cowards who chose the easy road of never examining themselves and making the necessary changes to improve their interaction and acceptance with mankind.

nice article...trying to understand why people do the things they do is a good way to help us love & accept people.
