I didn't attend my class prom.
I stayed at home to help my Mom
Ever since I was eleven, she had been seriously ill
Such a story must seem unreal.
I never knew back then,
Why or when,
Times were tough
Money, we never had enough
I wore second hand clothes
My shoes had holes
It really hurt when the kids made fun
I was glad when the day was done
I look back upon those years
Fighting back the tears
I may have been poor in wealth
My mother she had bad health.
But what I had, money couldn't buy
You see I had love in great supply
Love can never be bought or sold
Its cost is free, it is age-old.
My mother died in 65
But the most important things survived
Impressive beauty, truths sublime
The memories made during that time.
I missed the prom I'm sad to say
This I will tell you till this day
Even though I miss the prom
God has helped me carry on
One day I'll have my chance
I will sing and I will dance
On that day in heaven above
I'll be surrounded by God's Own Love,
