LABELS THAT CAN HARM

The label 'normal' is what everyone wants to be but some have been labelled because of their weight, height, ability to do things and the way they act. Some of us can be harmed by the labels that are put upon us. The labels that are given to us as children can alter the way we think of ourselves and it can be carried with us well into adulthood and can scar one for life. Labels can have an affect on a persons outlook on life.
I am too familiar with Labels. My daughter is dyslexic and some have labelled her as "slow". She does very well in mostly everything she does but has trouble with understanding or comprehending what people say. She does not believe she is slow but knows that there are those who label her as "slow". This has an affect on things that she does or wants to do. When she has the urge to want to something, if a lot of people are around she will shy away from doing it. Mostly because she is afriad she will fail or be too slow doing it and get laughed at, causing embarrassment and low self esteem.
To some, labels can be great, but to others labels can be like a knife through the heart. It can cause you to grow up with anger and resentment. I guess the reason I chose this particular label is because of my experience on it. I believe that is the problem with this world today. We grow up being labelled and it becomes stuck in our mind and we begin to believe that is what we are. For some this may not be true but i'm sure there are some that will agree that labelling someone can affect the way we live our life.
You live what you learn and i have learned to be careful when we label someone, not only does it affect that person but it can also affect us.

I really like your last sentence, because when we label, we not only limit the person through self-fulfilling prophecy, but also limit ourselves through blindness. Good job!

labels can serve two purposes... and we need to remember to use the right ones.. good reminder.
