REST
I sauntered in to the court of the King
Weighed down and burdened
Anxious and in despair
Life had taken its toll on me
Giving me more than my fair share of pain and sorrow
Yet still, into the courts of the King I came
I had nowhere else to go
No one else to turn to
Starved of peace and joy
In dire need of a place to lay my head
Voices of saints offering worship filled the air
Wish I could join them, but I was just in too much pain
‘Holy, Holy, Holy,’ they cried
‘Worthy to receive all glory’
Stooped, I made my way slowly to the throne room
Such splendor, such magnificence
But today, I had eyes for only the King
He sat on the throne, high and lifted up
And His train filled the temple
I fell to my knees before Him
Who could stand before such a great and mighty King?
Weeping profusely, I bowed at His feet
He rose from His throne, to the place where I lay on the floor
Stretched forth his hands and picked me up
Still weeping, I was pulled into the embrace of the Almighty
With my head in His Chest, I tried to tell Him how badly broken I was
Who had broken my heart and who had betrayed me
He listened carefully, and gave me grace to forgive
He took away my burdens and cleaned up my wounds
I sat on His laps, heard Him whisper words of love to me
‘I’ll never leave you nor forsake you,’ He said.
‘You’re the apple of my eye’.
I placed my small hands in His large nail pierced hands
Hands that spoke volumes of how far love can go
As I sat there, with the King
Utterly refreshed and restored
I knew I had come to the right place
To my King and My Father
To my place of rest.
